Any reputable breeders out there that have a litter available in the near future? I have been looking for sooo long...and might have to settle for a BYB

Location is not really an issue...but Canada would be preferred

thanks!

I don't know many in Canada ... but, here are four that may be what your looking for. Please do your research before buying anything. :)

http://www.bandamastiffs.ca/AboutUs.html

http://www.abelliomastiffs.com/ (who's link is also posted above)

http://lacellemastiffs.com/BREEDING.html (going straight to LacelleMastiffs.com gets you to a 'work in progress' page, but if you go to this link, you can drill around on their old website (which apparently, they're trying to update currently).

I know several breeders and if you don't mind the dog travelling to you, I know a very good one that has been breeding since the 70's that has a litter available right now. Please don't go to a byb, that is the worst thing you can do and you could end up with a lot of problems.

I hate you Ruth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I was hoping no one would realize I never finished this project :)

On to the topic at hand.....I'm not sure creating a list would be worthwhile. There are already lists out there and I'm not signing up to "maintain" this one. People can read through this thread and see the "good" breeders and also, they can find links to other breeders.

Just an FYI.....the breeder I'm getting my new pup from is one of the first ten I ever posted in this thread. Stonehaven Mastiffs. Top Notch so far...

I know CeCe. She has some nice dogs and has done some nice breedings. Some years she does many, some years a few.

Hey sorry to jump in here... We just put a deposit down on an upcoming litter. We were torn between Beowulf mastiffs and Da moose farms...both of which were listed here previously. We decided on da moose even though they seem smaller Karol is very personable and she answered all. Y questions. Anyone else have any experience with this one?

Hmm now I feel a bit dumb... Many of the positive things to look for in a breeder ..they have..but there's a few they don't...pluses are ..registered AKC, health guarantee, referrals, pictures of their dogs actual mother and father. Negative I see.. When I asked about health testing the father had been tested however the mother hasn't but there records of testing for both the sire and dam of the mother (if that makes sense)... The other was she didn't ask for a deposit (puppies due 1st wk April) so she put us on a waiting list but whoever has their deposits in get first pick and sense the list is full my husband wanted to send off the deposit to make sure we were good to go... Maybe this was dumb on our part..

If you are sure you want a pup from this breeder I would definitely put in your deposit to hold a pup.

Comments on the breeder:

You're looking at the Oodles/Daisy breeding I assume?

You said the sire is health tested? But I am unable to find him in the OFA database. Hips could be done via Pennhip (which isn't searchable online), but pretty much everything else (in the US anyway) goes through OFA. I recommend asking for copies of the health testing results.

Ditto the dam's parents btw. I was able to find OFA records for her paternal grandmother (but only for cardiac and patellas), to be fair her paternal grandfather appears to be from Aus and I don't know what database any testing done on him would be in. I was not able to find listings for either of the maternal grandparents in the OFA database.

I'll note, not everyone places as high a priority on health testing as I do. I think its a vital importance, for reasons I've ranted on other places and won't get into. And if she's charging $1500 or more for a pup then she OUGHT to be health testing IMO, for the price she's charging. In the end its your call, especially if all you want is a companion puppy. However if she is unable to prove health testing then my opinion of her drops immensely just based on that set of lies.

Thank you for the response. The testing I have on him (father) is for hips. I can ask for copies on the grandparents. So far I've been impressed with everyone else's reviews. The price 2500.00. She was honest with me that she didn't have mom done. I like how responsive and educated/time spent on me she seems to care. I'm not going to lie now I'm nervous... My husbands co worker has one from a litter 3 or 4 years back and sing nothing but praise... Was it hard for you deciding on a breeder?

Were his hips Pennhip? Or did she just have xrays locally evaluated?

I'd really like to also see elbows, eyes and heart checks as a bare minimum for the EM. And if I really wanted to get picky I could double that list.

What does her puppy contract look like? Any health guarantee? I didn't see anything about it on the site. Is she aware of (and do you feel you can trust her answer) any health problems within 3-4 generations on the parents' pedigree (since we're lacking health testing)?

Hm, yes and no, on finding a breeder. I've a TM, which narrows the list of breeders alot just because of that breed preference. I guess I kinda got lucky. I ended up finding, within a days drive of me, a breeder who's been working with the breed for almost as long as I've been alive, who's a judge for the breed (not only in the USA, but internationally), who's EXTREMELY well known in the community (both in the USA and Internationally), who's absolutely OCD about the health and well-being of her dogs, who basically insisted that I meet her and her dogs face to face (we slept in her house when we picked up our puppy).....

(and off topic, a total laugh, you must have the profanity filter turned on, it filtered the word "a.s.s.u.m.e" in your quote! lol!!)

Well I called around and got a feeling for a number of breeders.. Talked to my hubby and decided to stick with our original.. Yes, Ruth Pennhip :)... I didn't feel the same connection with the people I called..most seemed to busy to answer questions..we read the contract together tonight very professional with health guarantee ect.. Now I'm just excited (more than kids) and nervous ready to see the babies :)...
