I personally don't have any suggestions, but perhaps some of our senior members will chime in over the next day.

I'm sorry, I don't have any suggestions for a specific breeder. I did want to address AKC Marketplace. The AKC marketplace is a place to sell puppies registered with AKC. It's a place to start, but not a guarantee that you're getting a pup from a good breeder. You can find responsible breeders there, but there are just as many, if not more, back yard breeders. AKC is a registry. They do not require any breeder to do health checks and it's not a guarantee that the dogs are a good representation of the breed. It simply means that the pups parents were registered with the AKC. Petstore dogs, puppymill dogs - both are registerable with AKC. I've spent quite a lot of time on the marketplace looking at breeders for my next pup. Just to get an idea of who's in my area, or across the country where my daughter lives, that may not have a prominent web presence. I've found that the majority of the pups listed are not from what I would consider responsible breeders. Well meaning breeders maybe. I don't know about that because I'm looking for someone that does the required health testing and puts temperament at the forefront of their breeding program and the great majority of the breeders on the marketplace don't test so I haven't pursued contact with them. Far too many people think that being AKC registered is a sign of quality. I liken the AKC to the BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles). A place to register but no guarantee of quality.

While I don't have a suggestion for a specific breeder, I do have a suggestion. Contact your local breed club. I would normally say to go to a local dog show and meet the dogs/breeders there, but that's not an option. Breed clubs have breeders listed. It's a good place to start. Again - do your own research. Just because someone is part of the club doesn't mean they're doing things the right way. You can also find a breeder you really like that's not within your travel range and see if they have anyone they recommend in your area.

We are in NJ too. I got Zeela from a breeder in PA. check on line for breeders in PA. The amish people breed them. Unfortunately Zeela's breeder is no longer active.
I'll let you know if I hear of anyone. good luck.

True about AKC market place but it's a good place to start your research, visit breeders websites and communicate to them. And sometimes, with a lot of research, you will get better puppy from very remote country like Ukraine or Serbia than local breeder.

AKC Marketplace does designate some breeders as Breeders of Merit. The requirements are pretty stiff. It includes requirements for health screens, working titles, past experience, etc. It's hard for me to imagine a backyard breeder or puppy mill getting that designation.

Italica Cane Corso. Probably one of the top breeders in the country. You are actually in a lucky spot to have easy access to them.
