First for anyone who may be offended I'm concerned about my dog's poop so if this bothers you turn back now:

I have a 21 week old Cane Corso. Since I brought him home at 8 weeks he's always had soft to very soft poops. I've mentioned this to the Vet and all of his vet visits have been fine. He's not lethargic, eat's good, good weight gain (about 70lbs), high energy...etc.

I first realized there was problem, when would I take him to potty, he would go almost immediately, then I would take him for a short walk. During the walk, he would poop in the streets (country subdivision no sidewalks) and it would be runny...

In addition to twice going through the process with the vet of (bland can food, and transitioning him back to his kibble). I changed his food and still see the same result.

I started him on Diamond Natural Large Breed Puppy food for about a 6 weeks. He loved the food but still had soft poops... In hopes of getting a different result, I transitioned him to Pro Pac Ultimate Chicken Meal and Brown Rice Large Breed Puppy Food he's been on it for about 4 weeks.

These were chosen 1) Budget and 2) Rated high https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/

I'm getting the same result.

His potty routine is like this:
1) Go potty this poop is usually normal or soft. Sometimes he would go twice
2) Go for a short walk 1/8 to 1/4 mile round trip
3) Go back to potty location.... poop is almost always soft or runny

Since he is a puppy, I feed 3 times a day and he goes potty about 5 hours after eating except overnight when it's much longer.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Should I change his food again? I hate to keep going to the vet if it's nothing... They have told me they don't see any parasites or reason for concern but it does seem normal...

A small issue for me is it makes it hard for me to take my puppy to the park (not dog park) or other places because I don't know when he's going to poop and when he does in most cases it's runny which makes it hard to clean up behind him. Currently I take a roll of paper towel and plastic grocery store bags with me when we go out.

I appreciate any advice that can be shared.

Thanks for responding, yes, I transitioned from Lamb to Chicken. I would have thought the Lamb based would be fine.... If the thought is it's the food, I may transition him to Salmon and Sweet Potato.

My english mastiff puppy had very loose poop, it was like mud. After a ton of research I found that mastiffs can have a hard time processing poultry. I switched him to Taste of the Wild, salmon and it cleared up immediately. And no chicken or duck flavored snacks either.

Thanks, I used Taste of the Wild for my Boxers.... For the CC I've tried to stay with a large breed puppy food.... I'll give it try

Richie, how are the stools now?

My current dog struggled with loose stools for the first few years of his life. It sounds similar to what you describe here.

I tried several of the quality foods and some supplements and such. No difference.

One day, I saw that his breeder posted on social media they were switching to Purina Pro Plan Sport. I know, I know, not a good food, right? Well, it made a real positive difference. His stools are a lot firmer. (Purina changed the name to Performance, I think)

He still has a problem though in that if we are out for a longer than usual walk or run, he will produce poop after poop – every several minutes. Each one is looser/sloppier. Eventually, he is just squeezing out a teaspoon or less of soft serve (sorry –ha!) So, at this point, it's like his bowel is irritated and inducing him to try to poop more.

So I don't know if it starts with an irritated bowel (Can dogs have irritable bowel syndrome?), or if it's mental – as in, something about the extended outing makes him feel the urge to try to poop over and over, and maybe this irritates the bowel, compounding the problem?

Anyway, I am not trying to make this thread about me, rather, I'm hoping some of this will sound familiar or lead to answers.

Hi all, new to the site but my EM puppy had similar issues. I am thinking the chicken based food was part of the issue of loose stools. Our vet said it might be a large intestine issue and more fiber could solve the issue. We are trying a food she gave us that is high in fiber and it "hardened" up the stool almost overnight. Since this worked she said a fiber supplement might be all that is needed.

I will also keep him off of the chicken based dog food.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't checked on this thread for a long time. Draco is 15 months now and yes, I'm still dealing with the same problem. Part of me says except it that's the way it will be, but that just doesn't seem right. I hate to change his food so often because I know it doesn't help. I get your point about the Purina brand dog food. I've stayed away from it because it's "Purina" :).
For the longest time, I've been tempted to try it because the label information states there are pre and post biotics to help with bacteria in the gut. I was thinking this was mostly marketing matrial, but to read about the results you've seen with your dog, makes me thing it's worth a try.

I made need help getting past the fact it's Purina :(

it was the Purina Pro Plan Vet diet EN Gastroenteric Fiber balance. We slowly mixed in his regular food with it once things firmed up. We found he need about 25-30% of his food to be that to keep things firm. He is putting on weight and growing, so things are good.

Thanks. I recently switched to Taste of the Wild so I'll give it a few months to see how things go. Depending on the outcome, I'll try switching to Purina Pro Plan Vet diet EN Gastroenteric Fiber balance.

Hi all. My last dog had the same problem. Soft or even runny poops, and when taking him for a walk, it was like he would try over and over to poop until he had nothing left in his system. I switched him to Royal Canine, Veterinary Formula Fiber Response (some places will not sell you this food without a Vets prescription) and it helped him tremendously! It is not cheap, I paid $65 for a 17 pound bag through my vet. Hope this helps your pup! Let me know how it turns out!

Off-topic. Bruce Wayne is an amazing looking dog. Do you really have the sire to Bruce Wayne?

I'll try the Purina, it's more in my price range :)

P.S. Have you tried putting him on some Metronidozol, it is a drug that will help calm his stomach and intestines. I would put my Boxer on that for about 5 days, 500 mg twice a day (he weighed 87 pounds) and that would usually clear him up. You can get it from your vet if you have not tried it.

Probiotic powder, raw minced chicken carcass and raw chicken wings or drumsticks with some dry food (Diamond Naturals Large Puppy Lamb) did my Boerboel wonders! He always had soft/runny stools. Now his meals are made up of 70% raw 30% dry he only has soft stools on the odd occasion.

I have not tried that. I recently switched him to Taste of the Wild... I'll see how things go after three or four bags of that.

Richie, my girl has issues with grains. They make her have very loose stools…. So no grains what so ever that includes no corn or oats. Sometimes my husband will sneak her a pizza crust and I find out because she ends up with the runs within a couple hours
