Hardwood Floors (Advice)

RUGS!!!!

Hardwood floors are SLICK and $#@! growing joints... lots of slipping and falling at odd angles when zoomies occur... :)

We have engineered hardwoods (they don't scratch), and use the non-slip cushions under big area rugs in every room. Costco has 8x10 rugs for ~$100 (indoor/outdoor variety) which work well for us. Cheap enough to replace every few years, as needed.

Denna never chewed on anything we didn't give her... not sure how we lucked out on that, other than we always gave her tasty things to chew, made them interesting (i.e. played with her with them, held one end while she chewed the other, etc.), and kept her crated when unsupervised.

That's what I plan on doing. I do have rugs in most rooms now, but need runners for the hallways. He will be crated when unsupervised and with kids, dogs and myself, hopefully he will get enough stimulation and attention. Also chew toys and treats mixed in with obedience classes. At this point I think that's all I can do lol.

Why does our builder and designer say that the finish on engineered hardwood have better durability with a factory finish?

Edit to add the wood floor is going in the non-dog half of the house.

lol. I know what it means, I am very allergic to dogs, cats and all kind of other animals: I manage it with inhalers daily and I try to implement the same policy: no dogs in the bedroom. No luck so far, lol!
If i move an arm in my sleep, i immediately have 3 concerned mastiffs next to the bed.

Engineered flooring has a hard THIN veneer wood top coat.. it is harder than real wood... however, once that veneer is damaged. .easly done with nails from a mastiff. Their is no repair... All you can do is go back with a small touch up pen and color it back in..knowing flooring I used real solid wood and used a top coat used for basketball courts... If I had to do it all over again I would move in my back yard and give the house to my dogs and kids. If my wife wanted to join me that's cool. If not that's cool too...
