13 months old and changing

I have noticed some small changes in Angus over the past few months and just wondering if they are normal.

Up until he was about 11 months old he was the happy go lucky dog anyone could come up and pay and he would love on them and kiss them and pose for their photo's etc. but over the past 2 months or so he is just a little less willing to be social with strangers. He will still let them talk to him and touch him but I have noticed his body gets a little more tense and he looks at me a lot as if he is checking that the situation is okay. Nothing negative has ever happened to him with people so it's not like there is an environmental reason for the behaviour change which leads me to think it is just that he is growing up. Are all english mastiffs like this? He is unaltered too so there is some testosterone in there that is probably making some changes too :)

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have :)

Chances are he is starting to come into his adult temperament. He may not be as friendly with strangers as some other dogs. Kryten for the most part still wants people to pet him but there are times when he will prevent me approaching somebody. I haven't figured out what triggers him on most of those people as I couldn't sense a difference between them and the next inline who was approached for petting. Without actually seeing the behavior I can't be sure but it sounds similar to when Kryten is making sure I'm alright in a situation.

he will probably become more protective and conscious about his strength...volka did change gradually..still very friendly but also selective . he still has lots of time to grow up and mature

Mouse was very much the same, did a huge attitude change around 7 or 8 months and again around 12 months.

He still wants lovin from all the kids, women he loves petting him and will let men also pet him, but with adults he just don't get excited, he is not Mr. WiggleButt with adults, if adults openly show fear of him he will give a half heart bark there way as to say, "I didn't want you to pet me anyway.

It's not really a problem. He is a guard breed it is perfectly expected that these instincts will eventually come out. I just still see him as a puppy is all. He isn't ever aggressive with people he just isn't excited to see them and is sometimes tense and nervous if they try to touch him
