The emotional state of stress and anxiety wasn't there until this last bite. The person and the circumstances surrounding that bite brought on the stress and anxiety because at that point, I realized how dangerous and unpredictable the situation was. Until that bite, I thought we had the triggers figured out and could manage the situation and continue working with him. From the time I brought him home in May, he was very fond of my mom and comfortable around her. Has seen her pretty much every day since then. He approached her for his routine greeting with her in a calm and friendly manner. And then just lost it. So yes, the last 9 days have been stressful and bucket loads of anxiety but for the 6 months prior, it wasn't that way at all.

I'm glad you were able to maintain your situation but I can't see a way to give him any kind of life and still keep this household safe from the damage he can inflict. Thanks for the offer of hope but after thinking through all the options and talking with a behaviorist and multiple vet appointments over the last week.........

It's understandable. You do what's best for you, your family and your dog. No one can judge you for that. In the end your decision is the most important. It's an impossible decision, and my thoughts and heart go out to you.

You , and only you, know what is best for him and your family. I appreciate the time and energy you have put forth for this situation and you can be secure in the fact that this is the right thing to do. I will be thinking of you going forward.

There are MANY unstable temperament issues in the CC breed. In your situation I would do the same thing. Do not put your children at risk. This next comment may not be well liked, but why would you risk your family for a dog? There will always be people who blame the owners for "not doing enough" in these situations, that however is the same as blaming mental illness on the parents. Cesar Milan is not the answer for working breeds, a shih Tzu maybe, a Corso NO. A CC should be a stable dog ready to put down their life for their family and people. I am sorry that you ended up in the situation you are in, I have been there and know how much it sucks. But you are doing the right thing. Our thoughts are with you.

I hope you all realize what a great bunch of people you are. The advice, ideas and ultimately the support that I received here blows me away. :)

All the ladies at the vet clinic yesterday were awesome as well. Not a dry eye in the building and lots of hugs and understanding.

I am feeling a little lost without my big shadow and I think my little pooch is confused and senses all the sadness as she is following me around like she is attached by an invisible wire. :(

Thank you again for all the supportive words. It is greatly appreciated.
