Hello..New to forum. I have a 6 month old beautiful brindle girl, Ava. I want to start training on the electric fence. Just wondered if anyone had experience with training on fence at this age. I have a chocolate lab, trained him on fence when I got him, but he was 3 yrs old. Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard~ Do you pics of your Ava? I have no experience with an electric fence, hopefully other members will be able to help you. IMO, I do not see why you can't start training at 6 months.

From what I've researched about invisible fences, they aren't effective when you're dealing with a mastiff, because of their high pain threshold. I was considering an invisible fence for the front of my property, (the back is fenced in), but I found people who reported that their Cane Corsos (which is what I have) had "broke the barrier" in spite of being repeatedly shocked; they got shocked going out, and got shocked trying to come back in... I'd imagine this would discourages your animal from coming home if he does get out. Definitely not what I want.

Also, from what I understand those are made to keep your dog in their yard, but it doesn't keep OTHER dogs out of your yard. There's just too many people who thinks it's fine to let their dogs roam free, I disagree, and I certainly do NOT need them on my property when my dog is out. Needless to say, I decided against it.

Now would be the time to try. Once he is older, his stubborn butt will take it and trot on.
Marshall stepdaughters EM does great with it. Romeo who was around 3yrs, would actually yelp when it was set to max and his stubborn self would still go on and come back thru, also a EM. Romeo was a big EM a very solid 240ish, I'm 285 and checked to see if it was working and trust me it was, lit me up.

Marshall was think 5 months when they got it installed, Romeo was 3yr old when it was installed.
