Advise Please - Our Harper has a discharge UTI?

Harper is a one year old Female. A month ago we noticed she was peeing 2 times in the am with seconds of each, and then a few days after that started we saw a cream colored drip after she peed. Took urine samples to the vet and it shows something but not sure what had a culture run and it came back negative so she was treated with antibiotics.. Seemed to stop we did not see any discharge. Last week we noticed the discharge now is much worse when ever she stretches it comes out and is all the time. Back to the Vet with another sample the antibiotic is not working. We had a culture run and now waiting for its results.

Has anyone else dealt with this? and how did you get rid of it. Its a mess all over and seems like her mood is slightly off?

Hopefully we hear today they found something and the correct antibiotic is used to get rid of this.

We are frustrated that she still has this after all this time.

Thanks
Kurt

Not sure on the discharge issue... but after you're done with the antibiotics be sure you give a good broad-spectrum PRObiotic (or see if the vet says it's ok at the same time) to repopulate the gut with good bugs.

You could also ask about adding cranberry supplements for your pup. That can help clear out the urinary tract by acidifying the urine a bit. That helped our cat - she never had another UTI after we found her some cranberry tablets.

Getting her to drink more water can help flush things clean, too. Use Ice as treats (plain or with berries or low-sodium broth) or add a splash of something tasty to her water dish in the afternoon (avoid evening, or be ready for mid-night breaks again).

I'm surprised the vet doesn't have any ideas... might be time to search our another vet for a second opinion, too...

Any vet that proscribes antibiotics when a culture comes back negative is subject to being replaced (or at minimum a second opinion), in my book.

Does she have vaginitis? My girl has a recessed vulva. That means that there's extra skin around the vulva and it keeps things moist and creates an environment that is ripe for bacteria. Even if your girl doesn't have the same problem, I would suggest cleaning her with unscented baby wipes throughout the day. Especially after she potties and when she's in heat. It might help.

Thank you for the reply.. She is on a probiotic and we started her on the cranberry supplements over the weekend. We are giving her more water now thanks for that one and should get the new culture results today. If its inconclusive we will try another vet for their opinion. Thanks again for the help.

She did when she was 4 months old which we thought cleared up? Thanks we just started cleaning her with baby wipes seems to help. But she is not the most cooperative when you try that but getting used to it :)

Thanks for the advise

It is very unusual in young dogs but I would ask the vet if it could be pyometra. I would rule this out first because it can get bad really fast and can be deadly.

Now that's something I didn't even consider, given her age. I forgot that Ella had her first heat at 9 months. Definitely a good idea to rule it out if she's had a heat recently.

Ask a second opinion and have all the investigations possible done and/ore re-done- blood tests, urine tests, ecography, etc, and check all organs as well, sometimes the issue can be someplace else.

is this dog spayed? could she be going into heat? it is not uncommon for a bitch to void frequently and be itchy and have a discharge just prior to going into her first heat
