  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Any info is appreciated

This is the pedigree that came with my beautiful girl. Does anyone here have information about the breeder or where she might have come from?

Merckle's is in Ohio. I know someone who got a dog from her. I think she's a pretty big breeder. When we were looking for our dog I checked out her website. I'm pretty sure she sells them all with full rights so I think whoever bought her could've bred her without any stipulations.
Ok looking more closely that's not the breeder. Looks like maybe the breeder owned the dogs from Merckle's and bred them? I don't recognize the breeder's name.

How did you come to get the dog? Usually reputable breeders want their dogs back if someone cannot keep them. I guess if you want to find out about the pup I would contact the breeder of the Sire and Dam. She may not be the breeder of your pup but would know who owns the parents. I checked her dogs and she does not list their full names so not sure if she has the sire and dam

Yes, I've done searches also with no luck. This is the only info I can find on the breeder which really means nothing to me as I am only a family mastiff owner.

Merckles also has no info on the sire and dam which is not too surprising since it's probably 7-8 yrs past.
I found out about Chickie(affectionately call mama chica now) on a facebook page "Mastiff Rule Drool Cool-Available English Mastiff Puppies-Adults and Rescues". I was interested in rescuing an adult EM and casually looking around. I know mastiff rescues will post on there. I noticed a woman answering a few ISO posts offering her female. She was less than 2.5 hrs away so I decided to check into it. I certainly was not prepared for what I found and there was no way I would leave her in those conditions. Crazy enough, the owner saw nothing wrong and offered her papers, pedigree and asked for $200 to recoup "lost" funds. After pointing out all the medical issues she would need seen for she agreed to just give her to me. She was of no use to her due to not being able to produce a litter.
I am interested in knowing where she came from because of her horrible condition and the extensive breeding I believe she has been through(my opinion as well as multiple vets from the clinic I use). I would like for either the breeder to know this happened and do more checking into who they sell to or the public to be advised of possible breeders involved. This is why I am inquiring. I only want to try and protect other mastiffs(and dogs in general) from this fate.

I couldn't find anything on the person listed as her breeder. Do you know if she kept her and then was the one who was breeding her or if she sold her to someone else who then was the one breeding her? Chica's breeder could have been someone who only had a couple litters and sold the puppies. And if that's the case and she's 6 years old it could be hard to find out anything.

I know she was bred before being sold to breed again(which is where I picked her up from). I am only speculating this part, but the former breeder probably new she was used up and sold her claiming she could still breed. The last owner tried at least 3X to breed her according to the medical records I received. She never took and therefore not wanted. I find it hard to believe any reputable breeder would breed their female and then sell for cheap($800 is what i am told) without spaying or checking into her new home beforehand. Like I said, I am going off the little information that has been shared and her physical condition by the time she came to me. If anyone believes I am misconstruing any of this information please tell me. I will in no way be offended or upset. I do not claim or feel I know everything and my only desire is to help in preventing this from happening to others.
I do have her papers which I can transfer to my name. Is there a way to look up her number and see who formerly owned her?

There's a thread here about Merckles. Might be worth checking out.

I'm curious. Would you be comfortable sharing where you got Chica? I think you said that she wasn't with a breeder, but can you share the town? A 2 1/2 hour trip from central Illinois could put this person close to me, or close to other family members, depending on the direction.

Where are you located? I'm 5 miles outside Champaign/urbana.
I picked her up a few miles outside Salem IL. They have a brindle male and I'm sure looking for a new female to breed him with. They also have a pair of breeding Doberman's who "have paid for themselves" in her own words so still on the property. She had them locked up while I was there so cannot confirm, only going off what I was told. The Male EM I did see and do know he was intact.

I'm in NW Indiana, but I know where Salem is. I grew up in southern Iowa, and went to college in Illinois. My oldest daughter just graduated college in Indianapolis and is remaining there. Salem is easily within driving distance from Indy, and my daughter will be looking for an EM in a few years. Best to be forewarned. Thank you.

Have met her the owner on a couple of occasions.
Nice enough person, but she does not health test, has far to many litters, breeds a little to much just for size, also does not show.

Have heard a few bad stories, none that are first hand. Thought very badly of her and her program, until I met her. Still have issues with her program but she's a nice person, just think she not a very good breeder. Her place is about 1hr 45 mins from mine.

She charges 200 or 250 more for breeding rights, and that is on any quality. Also her health contract I've been told is next to worthless past exchanging the pup for another, which she seems to always have a litter or 2 on the ground.

Thank you TWW. I'm glad to hear she is a nice person but do hope she will be more aware of who she sells to or maybe her own practices. Do you happen to have her kennel name?

Yikes! Thank you so very much TWW. Not the answer I was hoping for but an answer nonetheless. I wish she could have been traced back to a particular breeder but I guess it is not all that important. She is with is and we just adore her:) we will find out if she is healthy enough for her spay and tumor removals later this week. No matter what her past has been, her future is filled with loved as a part of our family.
