  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Any reallu good treats to use for training.

Delilah kind of turns her nose up at every treat I have tried. She eats her food just fine but treats are a whole other story She just kind of looks at me sniffs them she might even take it and spit it out.So any brand or reccomendations would be very appreciated.

An easy cheap treat would be to just use her kibble, giving a piece at a time. We really like Buddy Biscuits, the soft ones that come in a bunch of different flavors, Yummy Chummies are good, and sometimes I make my own treats too. If you google you can find a bunch of recipes and most are pretty simple (i.e. flour, oats, peanut butter).

Yeah that type of biscuit or kibble seems to be what she doesn't respond to. Maybe something soft or chewy or meaty might work.

The buddy biscuits have a chewy one that is big enough to break into pieces to make them last longer. The yummy chummies are also chewy. We've also used Zuke's Mini Naturals. We had the chicken ones and I think they smell awful but the dogs loved them.

I just want to get as many opinons as I can we live in an area where our only option to buy treat is walmart. So most of we buy we order online. So I wanted to get reviews before ordering me that she doesnt like.

I understand about having to use Walmart. We have to drive to another county to buy our dog's food and treats. However, you might want to try a chewy treat that Milkbone has made and sells at Walmart. I don't give Moose things like Milkbones usually since he has a wheat allergy, but I liked these. I think they're called Healthy chews or something like that (can't remember off the top of my head). They have zero fillers and come in both chicken and beef (some dogs are allergic to chicken). We would just break the chewy bones into little pieces and Moose loved them.

We buy our treats from Petsmart, but I've seen many chewy training treats at Walmart that I would be willing to buy. Many of them are for a low price and grain free. If I happen to go, I'll look at some of the names and post on here!

We have a decent feed store here that carries her food but they dont have much in the way of dog treats its geared more towards the larger animals.

Pupperoni! Topaz was the same way when I was training her to stop being leash reactive. Nothing worked. But then I bought some nice smelly, chewy pupperoni and she loves it! I chop it up into little bits and carry some with me all the time.

I use good beef hot dogs, cut into slices and quartered the smell is really really strong and he goes crazy for them. I also buy the milos kitchen? jerky at walmart they have a beef one and if your read the ingredient list it is just meat and seasoning so not a lot of allergens in them, you can break them up also to small pieces to make them last ( and they can take to long to eat for training purposes when your doing repetitions).

EEEEK! Smart after you posted this I googled the Milo's kitchen jerky....Allsierra don't get it! YIKES! How in the heck do they fubar jerky it is already dry they don't have to put another preservative on top of that good Lord! Thank you Smart_Family... I had no idea BHA or onion flavor was bad for dogs!

It's okay :) When I first saw the commercial for Milo's kitchen I thought they sounded great so I checked them out at the store and I was surprised to see all those added ingredients so I didn't buy them. Onion flavor is small amounts is okay, raw onions pose a much bigger threat. I really want to get a dehydrator to make our own jerky but there's the dogswell jerky too that doesn't have added stuff in it and can be broken up. There's different formulas (happy hips, breathies, mellow mutt etc).

We have a friend who only uses carrots as treats. Since her bullies don't get anything but their dog food, they go crazy for carrots. Our dog Ruby loves them, but then she loves anything edible..canine garbage truck...I found that carrots cut up small are easy to carry & don't make a mess in your pocket. We've also used string cheese cut up in small pieces.

I always feel pretty lucky with regards to food and treats as my dogs will eat almost
anything. I love Nabisco saltine crackers and discovered they like them too. I don't give them crackers as treats, but I
Just wanted to give people an idea of my dogs' mindset...they will even eat hard pretzels.
I used to give my dogs Moo Choo's which are freeze dried lamb innards including the lungs, trachea, etc. The retailer w
went out of business and I hadn't seen anything similar until recently. Try this link>>Smokehouse 100% Lamb Munchies.

I haven't tried this brand yet, but it has good reviews...just a lot more expensive. I also gave them dog cookies. The cookies were human grade. I had the most fun testing them out on my son and husband first...boy were they upset with
me...LMHO!

Have you thought about drying your own treats? Although I haven't done the numbers I would think it is cheaper than even the crappiest treats, if you price them out by ounce. We can get chicken hearts or liver here for under a 1.00 a pound. Just sit them in the oven for half a day, low heat. Google it, pretty easy. Icky factor does not bother me, so I just use fresh hearts or their main treat is chicken feet, it is great for their joints.

Jagger loves carrots but he is also a doggie vacuum cleaner :p I freaked at first when he would eat everything off the floor (sorry but that many kiddos eating makes a mess no matter what I say lol) it is just crumbs but I was terrified he would get sick and my husband just laughed at me.

Hi AngelBears,

With regard to the chicken feet, do you give it to the dogs raw or baked? I've been researching raw diets and am going
to start transitioning.

Hi LadyDogLover,

Raw! Congrats on considering raw. We switched to raw for health reasons, one doggy has skin issues, another incontinence. Raw has helped with skin issues but it was not the miracle cure I was hoping for. As for incontinence, all but cured if we stay away from fish and lamb. Remember never to cook anything that has bones, fish included. If you have any questions I will be more than happy to try to answer them but I am far from an expert.
