Boerboel nail problem

Hello. I would like to ask if someone here has had experience with boerboels nail getting cut from the root? Or any mastiff type dog? My one was playing and his nail got hooked on to ground and did break near the root, so he had surgery to remove that broken nail and now i am waiting for his nail to grow up again.

I had a dog with a foot injury but it has been so many years all i remember is the blood everywhere. Was it totally removed from the root? Wouldn't that be like declawing a cat and not grow back?

My BM broke a foot nail the nother day. I didn´t cut it myself because it was very close to the root and obviosuly bothering him. I decided it would be better to have the vet doing it.
I was only able to take him to the vet 2 days after the event and...of course... the night beofre the appointment the nail fell off.
This happened about 10 days ago and today I noticed the nail is (slowly) growing back.

My cc broke a nail a couple days ago. We were playing and he tripped, cause he's a giant oaf, an fell on his head. I thought he'd hurt his leg because he kept it up for a few moments and the sat down, but he wasn't limping when he got up. I later saw that he only had about 3 mm of nail left. I'm thinking that as long as the nail is just broken and not completely pulled out from the root, it will grow back.

I have an American Bulldog mix whose nail broke right at the quick. The vet removed the broken nail & within weeks a new one grew back in. That didn't stop her from acting like a Barbarian! LOL!

The same thing happend with mine , he also fell on his head and body i thought he was seriously hurt not just his nail but it turned out he was ok beside that nail. So nail snaped in the root and vet didnt pull all root out of just he had to cut it deep where it snaped and now he has round hole like open wound and no nail to be seen ,so vet said we are waiting for his nail to grow up nothing we can do and. Its 3 weeks now and still no sign of the nail so i dont know is that long or it has to be that long because how deep his nail got snaped. I am going on saturday for a check up to the vet so will see what he will say but anyway all help is welcomed!

How many weeks did it take to grow? How did vet removed nail from your dog?

My vet did have to sedate the girl because she doesn't like her paws being touched (she's a rescue & she came to me like that - nail clippings are always WWIII). So she got a mild sedative & then my vet clipped the nail off, I think they did leave whatever top portion of the nail was still intact. Paw was wrapped up for about a week and we were given some antibiotics as a precaution. In about 4 weeks a new nail started grown in. That was it! :)
