Boerboel

For a long time I have wanted a Boerboel. I won't be getting one quite yet but would like to plan for one sometime in the future. I'm not in a rush as I understand this isn't the average breed of dog and I want to be fully prepared. One thing that may be an issue is my yard. I don't have a fenced in yard yet. I can put up a 6 to 7 foot fence which would create a small side/back yard as well as a 4 foot fence in the front that would create a huge space for the dog. My thinking is that four feet of fence in the front with this breed would require supervision when in this yard. The street is somewhat busy. Mostly quiet but once in a while cars will drive through fast as it's a straightaway before a light. There are also people walking by infrequently. Are boerboels jumpers? I have also considered an English Mastiff as I suspect jumping would be less of an issue, however my heart truly lies with the boerboel. I will ask more questions here about the breed that I haven't found through research so far. Thoughts?

I very much doubt a boerboel could jump a 7ft secure fence. In terms of research reading online about boerboels or any dog breed for that matter won't prepare you for owning the dog. The best research you could do would be contacting breeders or owners about the breed and spending time with the dogs. Another way to prepare for life with any dog is to learn how to properly train a dog using balanced methods.

Definitely. My concern was more of the front yard fence being 4 feet.

As long as the boerboel is supervised and well trained they'll be fine in a yard with a 4ft fence. I wouldn't leave them unsupervised in a yard with that small of a fence though.

Welcome to the forum, your doing great doing your research into your chosen breed,
No a 4ft fence wont keep the dog in, of anything out that wants to get into the dog, so supervision at all times would be needed.
