BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Advocates against pet cruelty are fighting for a bill that makes it illegal to chain your dog outside for a prolonged period of time.
Members of Dogs Deserve Better are making their point by chaining themselves to dog houses outside the State House.
They want to make it illegal to chain your dog outside for longer than 8 hours.
If your dog is chained outside, they're supporting legislation that requires pet owners to provide their dogs with clean water and adequate room to run around.
Robin Budin from Longmeadow says, “They're family members, they're pack animals, they want to be with you, they don't want to be lawn ornaments or alarm systems. They want to be with you, they're your pet. â€
Penalties for breaking the proposed law range from a $50 to $300 fine and having your dog impounded at a local shelter.
Advocates have less then a week to convince lawmakers to pass their bill before they recess for the summer.
