brazilian mastiff /pit mix

I had an dog that was 80%tiber wolf and 20% shepherd malmute, she got pregnant by full blood irish wolfhounds, i kept amale named boomer, someone stole her when he was about 2 yrs old but he was big old baby, looked just like his dad, he was outside dog, had to have him put to sleep 3 months ago, he had cancer he was twelve and half yrs old.

We were looking for a bull mastiff, i seen add on cl for mastiff /pit puppies and after we paid for him she had one the males on cl listed as a fila with papers and it was the same pic from puppies and had same phone number, so then we knew he was brazilian mastiff, I've been doing alot of research on the breed, and on pits, but he looks more mastiff to me, and trying to learn more.

Yes, I'm a stay at home, and from the time i brought him till now i spend almost all my time with him, just like my children, who are 17,15,&12, he will come when called, he will sit and when i give him treats i have him sit and then wait and i'll place the treat on floor and tell him to wait and he does, then i say get it, now I'm still working on him with bitting, when he wants to play he starts bitting so we get a toy, if he makes me bleed i put him in his cage with my nack to him for at least ten mins., ive watch some youtube videos and read alot, if anyone has suggestions, it would ne much appreciated.

He growls at people he hasn't meet, our neighbors 12 yr old daughter got down talking to him and went to pet him and nip at her, and I told him no, and that she was fine and then he let her pet him, i think it was out of fear, he got skidish at about 8 weeks , when i took him to vet gor 9 week shots he growled at tech guy in the room, he gave him treat and petted him then zeus was fine, so i hoping it will get better.

If you have been doing research on Fila's then you should understand that it probably won't get better and next time that little girl may not be so lucky.

Your gonna want to be VERY carefull with ANYONE outside your family. You really dont know where the temp will fall. But if it falls on the Fila side, there will most likely be no stopping the dog from wanting to bite strangers. You cant yell NO loud enough to break Kona's attention, cant pull the chain hard enough, all you can do is man handle her into focus.

Be carefull

Thanks for the info, if you have more feel to let me know, yes, i have alot to learn but i know its a process, i thought about getting a muzzle for him, any thoughts?, thanks

So last week I took zeus to Vet for 12 week shots he weighted 29.8 and he didn't want Vet touching him, so vet said bring him in once aweek to get to know us, so i took him in today, he was barking at them we went into room he was barking and growling at the vet, then the vet had us leave room bout 5 minutes later we heard zeus yelp like he was hurt then the vet opened door and zeus was very excited to see me the vet said i cant figure him out, i said he was skidish when i left he said yes, and he yelp when i went to put leash him, but he said keep bring him in and maybe he'll get used to the place, and he did nap at the vet when he went to pet him, and i've noticed that he barks and growls, until they try to pet him,his mother was a white pit and i read that white animals have weak genes, zeus walks like brazilian mastiff and for the most part looks like one and i believe he is going to act more fila, he gets along with cats and other dogs, but he my be baby, he still wants to sit in my lap im a petite person, but i love him.

If you do have a Fila, I would suggest you never leave the pup alone with anyone. I would also suggest your vet read up on a Fila. Kona tried to bte the vet at like 3m old. The pup also dont have the nerve to not be scared yet. And leaving her in there alone probly wont help get over it in the case of a Fila

At about 4 months our vet no longer wanted to see lilah without a muzzle or sedation he preferred the sedation. It is a challenge for sure. Just don't become complacent he will always prefer not to be touched. And will bite. So there will come a point when you can no longer safely have him be around strangers. Just be sure to recognize that and don't push tit luck with it so to speak.

I have to muzzle Titan for the vet. Titan has almost bitten the vet he had at Fort Hood but the vet was an idiot. He walked into the room, talked a little bit to me and my son, and then he kneeled down for Titan's face. Titan growled and jumped him. Vet was scared after that and they muzzled him with a muzzle for a small dog. I was livid and to say the least, not nice after that. I posted about this vet on every website I could find because he nickled and dimed us in addition to not knowing what he was doing. I now have a custom-made muzzle for Titan. My vet I now take him too is an awesome vet and will make the dog comfortable along with the human.
