Breeder suggestions

Hi everybody, I was interested in the Cane Corso breed and I was looking for a very specific type of Corso breeder. I want a bigger sized cane Corso and one with a more tight skinned look instead of a more wrinkled loose skinned look similar to the ones linked below. Any suggestions for a breeder or bloodline would be very appreciated, thanks!

I, too, am trying to figure out Coro lines and breeders. It seems like (especially with the black Corso you showed there) that you are showing pics of what I'd say have the Boxer influence. I usually see this in the face, and in Corsi with skin that is not to loose and excessive. As for size, though, I don't know if the Boxer influenced Corso is larger like you want. It's my current understanding that the Corsi that show Boxer influence are the European lines (which is counterintuitive to me, but it's what I've read).

As alluded to, I'm a newbie to Corsi and Mastiffs. I've been researching through books and the internet for about 4 years now. I hope some with more sage advice weigh in here and add to our educations.

We've got a lot of breeders here in Ohio. It seems a real hub for the breed up around Dayton. I have been wanting to visit Americana and Alcor, but I don't drive much (just a personal preference) so I am waiting to be able to combine it with another trip.

Those two breeders seem to breed the "Rustic" or "American" type that is large, heavy boned, perhaps generous on the skin, and actually (according to Americana's website) has a slightly longer coat.

The following two pics are from Old World Cane Corso, and I use them as examples of what, to me, is undeniable Boxer influence. The first dog is great looking, and I'd be proud to own it, but it's not really the type I'm looking for. It basically looks like what I always wished the Boxer looked like. The Boxers of today that I see around are very unimpressive looking to me.

That is definitely the style and look I am going for, tight skin, athletic and muscular while also maintaining a large size. Have you had any experiences with any of the breeders you mentioned?p

I did some more looking around and I found a breeder that looks like he has amazing dogs, he's located in Barcelona but he can ship internationally.

No real experience with them other than email contact with Americana and with Alcor, and text contact with the former. Both invited me to visit.

Alcor is run by Derek Mattson, who is one of the better known names in the breed in this country. His Corsi are in the pedigrees of many breeders. It was kind of funny, but instead of answering my questions regarding the breed via email, he replied that this was his least favorite part of the business, but if I wanted to visit, we could talk. He used to have a blog active on his website, but the most recent entries are from like 2014.

Americana is run by a younger couple and seems to be the new generation of breeders. You can find semi-regular posts on Instagram from them, and most refer simply to the dogs' looks. Via text, I tried to set up a day and time to have a phone call with Silas of Americana regarding the temperament and health of their Corsi, but he replied with a vague, non-committal answer so apparently he didn't want to be nailed down to a phone call, or maybe he was just busy like so many breeders love to say. I've gotten a better invitation to a phone call from another, different well-known breeder (but they are several hundred miles farther from me!).

Neither of the above breeders seems to do health testing that they are very specific about. You see some allusions to hip scores on Americana's website.

Have you looked at Black Pearl Cane Corso?

Their Corsi look impressive for the most part. I have always been very afraid of importing. Even if I stick with my breed – Doberman – and import from a breeder that I have trusted sources who have had good experiences with a breeder in Serbia I would still be very worried about the whole transaction.

I didn't see mention of health testing on the Barcelona site either but I may have missed it.

Personally I love the look of our own Black Shadow Cane Corso's dogs. She hasn't been on in a long time so I'm not sure if she's still breeding, but if I were in the market I would definitely take a look at her dogs.

There is a breeder in the Midwest. He has been breeding Corsi for about 10 years. He health test all his dogs and does pre-breeding test for all his dogs and bitches as well. I am personally getting 2 of his dogs. One in Oct/Nov and one in possibly March 2022 or July 2022. He is very knowledgeable of the Cane Corsos and will share all his knowledge with you. If you have a question or concern he will answer and talk to you. If you are at all interested let me know. I am usually on here a couple times a day. Have a great day and hopefully I was helpful

In addition to appearance it would be good to establish what you trying to accomplish with new puppy: participate in AKC shows? have a protective dog at home? have a farm dog? be good with children? start your kennel?
Good luck

I want to start a Kennel but I also need the dog to be good with young children. The temperament is an absolute must and it is the most important to me, the second most important is breeding rights and the third is appearance. I might be participating in shows or other dog sports but that is not fully decided yet.

Also, Health is obviously an important trait for me.
