DOG FOOD ALERT!! DOES YOUR DOG EAT BLUE BUFFALO? Complaints are piling in about diarreah, vomiting, seizures since the company was sold. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/blue_buffalo.html

DOG FOOD ALERT!! DOES YOUR DOG EAT NUTRO/NUTRO NATURAL? Complaints are piling in about diarreah, vomiting, seizures since the company has changed their formula.

SO many questions!
1. I don't know if there is the same problem with the cat foods. You might want to search those brands and state cat food on Consumer Affairs website.
2. I don't know for sure about the fact that Blue Buffalo was sold or not - but a lot of peoples dogs are getting sick on it. Mommy tried me on it a few months ago and I got sick. These warnings are really just to inform people so they can watch their dog and watch for symptoms and see if possibly the food is making your dog sick.
3. I don't think there has been a recall on either Blue Buffalo or Nutro.
4. I have heard of higher protein amounts effect dogs differently as do different ingredients so basically it is a try and see how your dog does on certain foods until you find the right one.
5. Some people have stated that all those complaints are false? Well some of the comments here show that other peoples dogs ARE getting sick and it COULD be from either of these foods.
6. We switched to Merrick Pet Care Merrick foods because it IS made in the USA and does NOT have ANY ingredients MADE IN CHINA in it. Mommy liked the ingredients on the list and liked that the food is locally sourced etc.... So far I have been doing well on the food.
7. Not sure I addressed all issues but will try to read through the comments again tomorrow and answer as much as I can.
8. Bottom line - it is always good to know if something changes in a dog food that is causing other dogs to get sick so that you can then evaluate your own dog and so you know what to watch out for. Nutro recently changed their formula - added Green Tea Extract - of which I read (don't know if it is true) that it is NOT good for dogs - so could be some dogs reacting to it or another possible "new" ingredient that was not there before. As always - the owner must judge what to feed their dog. I just like to pass stuff like this along in case others do not know what is making their dogs sick and can then figure out if it might possibly be the food.
9. That's it for now. BOL!

I don't like Blue Buffalo. I thought Cane did terrible on it but to be fair he had other issues. I have also seen other websites where people reported problems with Blue.

It truly seems like there is nothing safe anymore. I just switched mystic top bb now I'm wondering if I should switch again. Ugh

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but I remembered that a lot of the dog owners here liked the brand and thought it prudent to share the alert.

I like Blue Buffalo more than Diamond and it is easy to get but this is definitely not the first time this has happened.

Thanks Mike I appreciate you posting this. Can I ask what you have your pups on?

Taste of the wild and anything raw I can buy. They get 1 cup of kibble a day mid day and raw in the morning with raw at night. Solid stools, no smell, and good teeth.

Ok I just read the post for Nutro which I have been feeding my DDB since I have had him. I haven't seen or even dealt with any of those things. But that's not to say it could be around the corner for him. So what would you guys and gals recommend from a local petstore that I can buy for my DDB?

I was just considering changing Ruger from Blue Wilderness Duck formula because he just doesn't seem interested in it lately, which sucks because he has been on it since he was 9 weeks old and has NEVER had an issue. No runny poop, no gas...It has been perfect but suddenly he just doesn't find it appealing anymore. Now with this information, I suppose I should go ahead and do it. I have read so many stories on here of food changes and issues from food. I hate the idea of changing and dealing with that mess. I wonder what the chances are that I will get lucky twice. :-/

I am so glad the elders pointed me in the raw direction....... M&m always had probs with expensive kibbles, even tried natural which was even more expensive.. Granted raw can be expensive..... Butttttt if you hit the sales, talk to local butchers find out mark down days etc. It can be done...... Or google free range beef chickens in your area another cheaper way to go, get to know the farmers...... I make a stew of beef liver or chicken livers/heart parts, whole grain natural pasta & tomaters.....very cheap, healthy & they luv it..... Also make my own treats.... Treats are fun & easy to make, nom nom nom peanut butter bones lol...dehydrator is awesome for beef jerky to nanner chips....

I have heard a lot of good stuff about raw but to be totally honest, I have no desire to even consider it. Blue Wilderness has been fine for Ruger since he was a tiny baby but he is suddenly not feeling it and with these new issues, I guess I have to change. I changed him from Pedigree Puppy Chow (What the breeder was feeding him) to the Blue Wilderness when he was 9 weeks old. I didn't transition, I just changed him and it was if nothing happened except he liked it more, he was no longer gassy and his coat looked better. I am hoping I can make a change again without issue. Ruger eats table food a lot and so far has never had issue with anything (Except pizza, which he never got again) No gas, no bad poops, NOTHING. I guess I am going to try the Earthborn as well, though, I have to order it because noone sells it locally here but After spending the last couple hours researching foods and what is sold here locally, I feel most comfortable with the Earhtborn so wish me luck. LOL

Did you look on earthnornes website Kris? I looked and they actually carry it at petland by me. I still have like 15 lbs left of bb. God I hate wasting money but I don't want to chance it.

Yeah, I looked. The nearest place to buy it is a few hours away. I went ahead and ordered online through chewy.com. I only have petsmart and pet supermarket in this area. :-/ I actually only have enough of the Blue Wilderness left for a few days so I will change him as soon as it gets here. It is reccommended that you transition (% of old food and % new food) slowly from one food to the other but I am not going to buy more Blue Wilderness to transition with so I will just be changing Ruger. I think he will like it as long as it is not the fishy stuff. He doesn't like any seafood based foods or even real fish. Which one did you decide to go with?

It's funny that you say that Kris bc that's exactly how my little dog was. She had a steel stomach & could eat anything she wanted without any tummy troubles. Now I have to keep anti-nausea pills on hand in case she wakes up with a stomach ache. Her steel stomach is long gone so I'll most likely have to do some kind of transition with her. I'm looking to switch her food also & even considered switching her to earthborn as well. Just don't know if it comes in a small bag. Takes Daisy 4-6 weeks to eat 4 lbs.

I'm debating between great Plaines or meadow feast. What flavor are you trying for my dream boy? Lol

Raechie, The smallest bag I am seeing is 14 pounds. But I just looked on Chewy.com, maybe they sell smaller bags other places? I sure hope Rugers stomach of steel doesn't go away. I decided on Primitive Natural for my boy, tb44. :)
