Dog is Ready to Be Bred

To the OP ... just because your dog has CERF, hips, elbows, etc. does not mean they're of sufficient breed type to warrant being bred.

Enter your dog in some conformation shows, talk to some Mastiff judges, etc. ... and then really really listen when they tell you the good and bad ... and don't just assume that whatever weaknesses your dog has will be easy to fix.

Have super high standards --- it's the only way our breed will be better tomorrow than it was today. :)

I have been with show. She is going into therapy dog training and carting soon. I grew up in the show world. My parents bred Pomeranians, I worked labs in show and field and my male was used as a stud dog for a service dog organization. By the way, show does not always mean better. I want a dog that can work as well as meet breed standards. A lot of the time, show dogs don't meet those criteria I think this just goes back to my days with Labrador Retrievers. The show dogs were useless in the lab world. His puppies worked with kids who have autism. It is not something I am taking lightly. I am looking at males from Europe for my female and have been looking for a male for as long as I have been looking for a female.

Also, it was a joke. :p

Glad I tricked some of you and glad everyone is having fun with it. My sanity is going. Daisy running around in pink or purple panties, trying to explain to people who have come to the door why my dog is in undies. I've received a few odd looks when the UPS man came to the door. :)

Eyes have been cerf cleared but we still need to do hips, elbows and a few other tests before we give the all clear for breeding.

No, you didn't or you would have seen my reply. I have over 20 years of experience with dogs and the show world. I delivered my first litter at the age of 11 and I know dog breed standards like the back of my hand. A few breeders I know have tried to convince me to start working towards show judging. But when do I have time? Trust me, I have done my research and I know what my ideal mastiff will be and how I am going to get to that point. I am taking the advice of a mastiff breeder who has been breeding since the 80's and through him from a breeder who has been producing since before I was born. So before you jump on your soap box read a few of my posts. From what I can see, you have produced 1 litter, so don't act like an expert just yet.

I think many breeds would be better off if we did not even have shows. That ring has ruined many a breed. Oh make it pretty and make it soft.

Yep, I agree with you there. Also a show breeder is not always a good breeder. I know many who show their dogs to championships and then put them in a kennel the rest of their breeding career. They brag about what their kennel produces but the dogs aren't cherished in any shape or form. On another side, show breeders can get a crap dog it's championship. There are ways to stack and handle a dog to minimize the faults and breeders attend smaller shows so the dog can win. I have seen a fluffy with his championship so there are serious problems in the show world.

This thread is a great example of why you need to consider the source and not just the subject. Like many I read the title and thought 'Oh God here we go again' but when I opened it and saw the first post was by Northern I knew it was a joke before I even started reading. There was simply no question in my mind that she would ever post looking for a stud.

I wouldn't be so against if breeders would stop saying generics statments like I breed for "health, temp, character, and structure." Yet the only thing they do is show. Good structure does not = the total dog. The great dane world is like that and it drives me nuts.

Sorry end rant.....

So Northern when can I expect a puppy, I think Stone would produce some great pups!

*Edit Smokey cat I agree.
