Dogue de Bordeaux breeder

Hello,
I'm new to the forum and was hoping to get some information. I've been researching the
Dogue de Bordeaux for about six months and im finally ready to get a puppy. I have a five year old
French Bulldog a wife and two kids. I'm not looking to breed or show the DDB, but I want a show quality DDB. I live in North Florida and I'm looking for a reputable breeder in Florida, Georgia, North Carloina or South Carolina. I've been looking at "Stout Dogue de Bordeaux" and "Red Bear Bordeaux" out of Miami
area and "Van Valkenberg Bordeaux" out of North Georgia. Does anyone know anything about these
breeders or know of another reputable breeder? Also what should I look for when buying one of these puppies? Thanks

These mastiffs will have some of or most of the same issues as most other mastiffs so you can ask the breeder if they have dealt with any of these issues with their lines. They should be comfortable discussing them and discussing how they would deal with the issue should your puppy come up with the issue. A sales contract that clearly defines what you can expect of them and what they expect of you in regards to the puppy I would prefer but they aren't always necessary if you trust the person you are buying from. Ask any questions you can think of and never think you are bothering the breeder, they should be more than happy to talk dogs with you (Most of us are more than ready to talk dogs ;) )

I also wouldn't limit myself to just immediate areas for a puppy. If you find a breeder that isn't from your area most will ship and sometimes you have to go out of your area to find a breeder that has what you want and that you are comfortable with.

Out of the 3 kennels you have posted I prefer Van Valkenberg Bordeaux ( I like their structure better on the males but am not sure if their head types are better, I have no idea what is supposed to be the more correct head on a Bordeaux). There are some much more knowledgeable Bordeaux people on here so hopefully they will chime in too. Good luck with your search!

Shelby1535 where did you get your DDB from? Black shadow it's not that I'm only looking in those areas, it's just that I would rather be able go and see the parents and interact with them as well as the puppy. I would also like to see where they keep the dogs and how they operate.

You can try beaches bordeaux in jacksonville. I know she has a litter due soon and her dogs are beautiful.

Got ours from a family who just decided to start breeding their male and female. It was their first litter and we found them because they posted an ad in the paper. Last december I know they had another litter. I used to be in contact w the lady but I am not anymore. If you want I can check if they are breeding again soon. We used to have a french bulldog to!

After reading ur post again, I do not know what a "Stout Dogue de Bordeaux" or "Red Bear Bordeaux" is. I was told that they also come in a redish color which is used a lot for shows (if thats what your looking for). The breeder we got ours from does not breed the reddish ones.

@shelby: by "Stout" and "Red Bear", he's referring to specific kennels, not a type. The basic coat color for a DDB is fawn, though some breeders make a distinction between fawn and "apricot".

I'm curious where Mark B. ended up getting his pup from...or if you got one yet? I'm also in south FL and looking for a great DDB breeder. We also have a frenchie and 2 kids!! Kinda crazy :)

As far as the kennels you listed I'd go with Valkenberg Bordeaux. However, if you want a top notch breeder that also uses extensive health testing I suggest Camelot Bordeaux. I know the breeder and she has some beautiful dogues. I'm also partial to her due to her work with the American Dogue De Bordeaux Rescue Society. Another awesome kennel is Big House Bordeaux; she is the best when it comes to producing champions. If you want to know what a dogue should look like (head, etc.) I suggest you visit her webpage. :)

Have those of you looking for a DDB considered the DDB rescue? The legitimate DDB rescue? The rescue are overwhelmed with the amount of DDB's they now have due to the economy and people finding out they couldn't handle the breed.

Here's the legit DDB rescue: The Dogue De Bordeaux Rescue Society of America Rescue ... I got the words mixed up in my earlier post. :)

@ DDB and @ Bullbug Do either of you know how to get in touch with them at Rising Star, or have a possible connection to them? I sent an email to them earlier in the week and haven't had a response back. My wife and I are going to Colorado next week on vacation and I was hoping to touch base with them at Rising Star and see if a visit would be possible. I’ve been doing a lot of research and have compiled a list of breeders in the Midwest if anyone is interested. I haven’t had a chance to get in touch with very many of them yet.

I researched the DDB and breeders for about two years, and talked to several breeders, one in particular on several occasions. You might want to check out Butterballbullies.com. That is the breeder I would have gone through after all my research. They are out of Oklahoma. I agree with MusicDeb and hope you will consider adopting. I just recently adopted an 18-24 month old DDB female and just love her to death. There are so many out there that need homes. Good luck and keep us updated!

My wife and I have talked about adopting and are both interested in the idea for a later point in our life. We are a little hesitant at this current moment as we have some other animals, 1 dog, 3 cats, and 3 ferrets; I know, we have a small menagerie. But we can afford and love all of them (no children). Our only concern about adopting is not being able to raise a dog in his impressionable period with these other animals. Castle is really a gentle soul and loves ALL animals. I contribute it to the fact that he was raised with the other animals from a puppy. The other week he found a toad and just intently watched it, and licked it a few times too, but he was so excited to see the toad. He also LOVES to watch butterflies and listen to birds… he also likes to stop and smell the flowers… I guess he just REALLY appreciates life! Lol.
