  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Emma Swallowed a 9" bully stick and is still vomiting...

Well, all possibility of me going to visit her was removed when hubs truck wouldn't start so he took my jeep to work. She will be home tomorrow provided her bowels start to function properly. Of course I'm going out of town for work next week. I'm going to have to tell my boss I can no longer travel. Not that I don't trust hubs to take care of her... but I don't trust hubs to take AS GOOD of care of her as I would. Face it, no one is as good as mom.... altho she did swallow the dam toy on my watch. I'm going to have to inventory the toys from now on!

LOL. I understand. Like I said before, I stopped travelling for work after the first time I left Ruger when he was a baby for four days. I told them then...No more! I didn't like it and wasn't doing it anymore. That was 3 years ago and I haven't traveled since. I have been so lucky with toys. Both of mine are bad about chewing them up but thankfully so far, they spit everything out. I use to worry about Ruger with his obsession with socks and no matter how I put them up, he would always find one but he never did swallow one that I am aware of and finally gave up the sock fetish. Ruger actually swallowed a whole bully stick when he was young, too and I freaked out and rushed him to the vet and they thought I was crazy!! He never had issue or acted at all strangely but he never got another one either. LOL

I have always bought toys that won't fit completely in their mouth and upgrade as soon as they grew for fear but I don't have any small dogs so that helps.

The little dogs will just have to suck it up. Fortunately Emma is more independent than Daisy was. With Daisy, the little dogs could have no attention or she would come sit in my lap. Emma doesn't care so while they won't have their little toys any more they will have mama lap time, its a fair trade. :)

Wow, glad you followed your instincts!

Friend of mine with malamutes had one of hers start showing signs of an obstruction and the vet operated to find out what was going on. My friend recognised the toy they removed - she remembered her dog playing with it at someone else's house about two months prior. It hadn't been a problem for all that time, but it lodged in her intestine and tissue slowly grew or swelled around it until it became a problem.

OMG I'm so glad she's ok. I only gave my girls two bully sticks a piece and couldn't stand the smell so out they went. I just saw Sage pick up a ball today and thought that it has to go as it's really too small for her mouth. I need to find some new toys for them that are bigger.

Those are good, just don't leave them too close to the fireplace in the winter, they won't roll very well later. <G>

Edit to add, not off topic at all! Toys that don't get swallowed are very pertinent to the discussion. :)

Dawn, thinking of you and Emma. Can't wait for you to be able to get her in the morning. We are expecting an update and if she is up to it a few pics. It won't be long now. :)

Will do AB! Sporting her cone of shame and everything. She will make it cute. ;) Of course I will need to put one on my pomeranian too to keep him from licking her tummy!

A pic of both of them together please!

I am so glad to hear she will be home soon. :)

Emma is home and doing great. Her personality is back to her spunky self. Vet said to limit her activity for the next 5 days or so and that the sutures will need to come out in 10-14 days. Of course as soon as I took her out of the jeep she ran to the fence to say hi to her siblings, then there was running around and jumping on the couch immediately when she got in the house and she proceeded to jump off the back of the couch. I would say she is feeling fine! She is now on a leash and snoozing on the couch with dad.

She is getting a meatball size dollop of wet food every two hours and we are still waiting for the first poop but bowel sounds are all good and she is peeing fine.

He wasn't going to send her home with a cone of shame, he wasn't too concerned with her licking her sutures. I don't know if that is because she hasn't been doing it or if he doesn't consider it a problem. He did send one home in case I feel I need it. So far we are doing well.

That toy had obviously been in there a while based on the condition it was in. I think the bully stick pushed it into her intestines finally and caused the problem. No way to know for sure, just glad it is over and hoping I can keep her relatively quiet over the next few days .

I'm so glad she's home and feeling spunky! She has the most adorable face. She honestly reminds me of my first fawn boxer girly. But bigger. Lol.

My dogs can destroy a jolly ball in five minutes. The handle is the first thing to go. Luckily they spit the pieces out instead of swallowing them. I just bought one without a handle for Ella. She doesn't like it. Go figure.

My girls are on he fence about destroying their toys. It took them a month to destroy their stuffed animal and they love to shred paper and t-shirts but the other toys have held up. They just started to destroy tennis balls, which is fine because they are too small now anyway.
