well I am picking up my girl Gabby next week. I am reading a lot about benefits of feeding raw. Could I start her at 8 weeks? And any website or book recommendations?

G'day mate
I have a beautiful girl who's 4.5 months and is fed purely a raw diet. I feed her a base of kangaroo mince, chicken carcass mince, bones, organ meat with a few extras such as sardines.
I found the following links to be really helpful. Your experience may vary, but all I can say is my girl is beautiful, happy and healthy and full of energy!
http://gryphonmastiffs.blogspot.com.au/search?q=raw - good site with info on how to calculate amount of food needed based on weight - it's for bull mastiffs but I reckon it's pretty close
http://www.itacor.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=17&Itemid=316 - this is the site of the breeder I bought from, and I've been following this to feed my girl - she loves the sweet potato and sardines in her diet

hope this helps ;)

oh, I also feed lamb necks and lamb flaps outside of her normal meals - they don't give much meat but they give her teeth and jaws a good workout

You can wean directly to raw, just be mindful of the calcium/phosphorus ratios, and be sure to get organ meats (especially liver) in there as soon as you can without causing too much upset. So, after, say a week of being on raw, start introducing liver in small quantities. My vet has seen quite a few puppies that suffered from home-prepared diets that were unbalanced. I'm not sure if those were raw or cooked, or anything else about them, but you do need to do some homework first - or rotate in some pre-made raw blends that are complete & balanced, just in case. Bravo Pet Foods, Vital Essentials, Red Rock, NW Naturals are some of the pre-made blends I rotate in on occasion.

This is my favorite 'getting started' raw website: http://rawfeddogs.org/rawguide.html
A good book is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Raw-Natural-Nutrition-Dogs-Definitive/dp/1556439032 the author also has a facebook group, "K9 Nutrition" which is helpful. She's not hardcore raw, so it's a very flexible and supportive group.

PS - I didn't start feeding raw until Denna was over 6 months old... so... reading the Gryphon mastiff blog (which contradicts some of my notes, above) suggests that might have been a good thing. LOL!
