Fila Brasileiro Breeders??

Does anyone know a good, reputable breeder of brazilian mastiffs? My mom and I were looking into getting one, and I was wondering if anyone one here could give me a reccomendation for a good breeder. :)

Secondly when we were deciding, our Second Choice would have been Lone Wolf Fila's, with our third choice being Lionsden Fila's

Lionsden, AAAHHHHHH. I have'nt heard alot of good about them least in terms of breeding for the betterment of the Fils.

If I was looking for a Fila pup I would really only ask 2 people on this site. If they can help or not, well I dont know. But I know I trust their opinions and I know they've at least talked to folks. Thats Dogman first and Angelbears second.

Thats not to say others dont have good advice but I dont know them I've read and posted with these two.

Now, what exactly make you and moms want a Fila? Have you ever seen a real fila in a real temp? They aint very easy dogs to have if your not ready for the life style changes that comes with a Fila

I have heard terrible things about Lionsden, too. I haven't heard much about Lone Wolf. A lot of people have Eshabeta dogs and they seem to be happy with them. As I've said Cane has some Eshabeta in him. The one problem he has had is skin issues. Not cheap either, think thousands of dollars and he is only three and that is not including what we paid for him.

The above kennels are not CAFIB. I don't think Juan and CAFIB would endorse them. There are a couple of good CAFIB breeders in the states. I will let Juan address that. I don't think Juan knows it, but I really wanted one of Maddy's pups but it just wasn't the right timing for us so I have nothing against CAFIB.

You might consider a rescue. Divine Big Paws gets a few Filas and they may be able to assist you in getting one with a temperament that you would be comfortable with. They are located in Alabama.

I'm sorry but I could NEVER in good faith recommend those breeders... not only becuase of the dogs they breed but some of them, especially lionsden are extremely detrimental to the breed... run, dont walk away from those breeders. In order for me to recommend a breeder I would have to know what exactly you are looking for as far as traits in the dog.... they will all have temp but some more controllable than others.. need to know what size you are looking for, male female. activity level, in doors , out door dog, etc. let me know about your yard set up and your livestyle. ie, active, social, etc. thanks and good luck.

Angelbears, thanks. Maddy is retired and fixed (no more pups) but she has several pups of breeding age now and one that just whelped a littler. as usual those are already spoken for but they are from Maddy and a son of apingora do ibituruna X an Umiri x Quixaba male...should be hard temps with good nervous system. later on (in about a year) there will be a breeding of fawns with a pup from her X unifila serras de minas sepe and an undisclosed male...should be very nice as well. I will post when they are expected. Juan.

Why is everyone against Lionsden? Doing some research on them, I think they produce some larger than normal dogs, if that is the style someone is looking for then it is okay. I couldn't find many people complaining about the quality of dog they got from them.

I don't know too much about lionsden but they sure do have a lot of dogs and still producing. I see the fila has already started a downward spiral......

Dig deeper. Don't go by their website. I have nothing against them. I don't know them but I have been on forums where people have come to complain about their dogs. Also, I wouldn't go with a kennel that has more than a couple of litters a year.

I spent a significant amount of time digging for issues with them, and couldn't find them...maybe my Google "foo" wasn't working those days.

If they are truly as bad as everyone here has said, I withdraw my statement as purchasing from them, and would only recommend Eshabeta.

Kshymkiw here is just one bad post I found about them.................the gentleman got the pup on Tues was at the vet with a sick dog by weds.......
  • My puppy has recovered from parvo. She did not suffer from a prolonged fever or dehydration because I caught her illness immediately and got her the right kind of attention...

The resolution I was given from the breeder was the following options ::

    1. Drive 5 hours to San Fransisco to give the sick dog back and get another dog from the same Parvo infested kennel

    2. Put the puppy back in a crate and send her back to them on a plane and get another dog from the same Parvo infested kennel.

I have incurred a $1700 vet bill over this fiasco on top of the $2000 price of the dog. The breeder should cop to the full bill but wont, he agreed to pay half but BARELY. At this time it is past the 30 days we agreed for him to have to raise the funds and I am wondering if he will pay at all.

I hope for everyone's sake that this is handled professionally, but so far...it has been far from...

  • After much tooth pulling Lions Den Fila's has paid their share of the vet bill for the dog that the sent me with parvo. She is doing fine and growing every day. I love my dog, her temperament and conformation to standard is fantastic... but would never do business with them again.

Wow, I hadn't found anything like that, when looking for them. I think it is pretty poor that they wouldn't cover the full bill.

While I am not defending them for their practice, it would be hard to tell if Parvo came from the breeder. It is very possible that the dog could have contracted Parvo during the shipping process. Either way in my opinion, that is something the breeder MUST cover.

Does Lionsden not Immunize their dogs against Parvo before shipping them out?

I have no idea what their practices are. I was just curious as to what bad things I could find on them, went to an actual "Fila" forum and this is what I found that was specific. There were others that gave non-specific "I wouldn't suggest them" type comments but this was an actual customer of theirs so I thought I would share. The forum I was on was www.thefilabrasileiro.com

There were more comments in regards to Lionsden however they were taken down......

I've never done business with the guy nor do I know of their practices. Personally there were just a couple of things that had some red flags.

Point well taken.

I can't edit my post here, but to the OP after reading some more, I would have to remove my suggestion for Lions Den.

I have a dog from lionsden but they have different kennels btw one in San fransico and the other here in SOCAL in Temecula I have PERSONALLY shook hands and spent time with Luis of Lionsden more than a couple times hes the one in Temecula and his dogs are good strong quality dogs with no illness that I could visually tell.. they were all more than willing to bite me and my wife he actually uses them to guard his ranch he keeps the pups and the mothers in the house at least that's where they were when it was 111 at his place ...they keep a wide variety of farm animals his dogs protect... him and his wife and children were very nice and insightful about the breed.. I never had any problems with Athena or getting any peds or any questions answered.... some people don't like Lions den meh I never had a problem with them...now if you don't believe in there breeding practices w/e but what I PERSONALLY know of his Fila they act right
