Fmcp or ocd conventional or surgery

Hello. We go Tues for second x-rays. The ortho surgeon stated in first physical visit that r 7 month old was showing the signs and physical alignmentsight of Fmcp or Ocd. But films would dictate. R primary vet has also stated that was his findings also. R vet stated that he doesn't believe w the ocd that we should go w surgery but would suggest if it is Fmcp. We r very torn w not knowing w way to go about this. The ortho says that surgery is needed in both cases if that is what shows on the films. We r looking for any and all input the this great site can provide. Cheers

I was told jade had ED of the MCP but he could not be definitive. After reducing her calcium intake and giving her fish oil and vitamin C she stopped limping. Most likely PANO for us. Here is the xrays.
The first one is just the xray. the second marks the places of concern.

Kryten has bilateral ED (UAP and FCMP) and has had surgery on one leg. The UAP was quite clear on x-rays but FCMP wasn't. The surgeon gave us a couple of options regarding the FCMP.
1. Do nothing surgical and manage the joint with supplements.
2. Remove the fragment. This leaves instability in the joint that eventually will cause arthritis.
3. A new procedure called CUE. I don't remember what it stands for but it involves replacing the broken fragment with an implant.
I had chosen option 3 but unfortunately (fortunately?) just before his surgery a report was released that showed that the implant failed after a few years and wasn't recommended for dogs under 5, Kryten was 16 months. I ended up going with option 2 and two years later he does appear to have some arthritis in his surgical elbow.
If you do a search for "Kryten has Elbow Dysplasia" it will take you to a thread where I documented from the time of his diagnosis to after his recovery from surgery.

Mateo had OCD of his right shoulder (diagnosed at 11 months) and was treated via arthroscopic surgery. He healed quickly and was no longer limping after a few days. Today, there is no sign of any lasting effects.

Mike, did ur dog have some swelling along w slight lamness? He has been Def improving in last month or so since on meta cam and joint supplement. He is feed a raw diet as all my dogs have been. So we r Abel to monitor his calcium intake pretty well. He had blood work to confirm we were staying on track w that. His weight is manged well. He dose take fish oil along w flax seed and coconut oil. I will have to get the vitamin c thou. The swelling is what concerns me...

Is arthroscopic perfered over actually opening up the elbow. And what r success rate of both. I understand that artho will b less invasive. But I'm looking to learn more on final result and long term.

My sons lab was diagnosed with this when young, luckily he met a Vet at a party who told him to wait air out and give her glucosamine and condrontin, as this is overly diagnosed in young dogs leading to unnecessary surgery.
Long story short she didn't need surgery and is doing perfect now.
