Hello! Looking for some advice from other Bullmastiff people. Thanks!!

My Sam is 14mo old male, weighs in at 140 lbs so far and is otherwise super healthy except he has itchy skin problems. He licks his legs and feet raw! I've been to Vets three times and each time he gets put on steroids which clears up the problem temporarily only to come back. I feed him Taste of the Wild Bison and Venison only with 2 tsp of fish oil for dogs. Eliminated all treats and never people food, thinking it might be food allergies, no help. Now the Vet wants to switch his food to some super expensive $80 per 25# bag of food with minimal ingredients....that's what TOTW is and in the past he has had bad tummy issues with any other food. Has anyone had any experience with skin problems and how did you alleviate it for your pup?? Thank you!

Have you thought about a raw diet? A lot of people have had success with it. I switched mine to raw. It helped but it was not the miracle cure we had hoped for but it did help. I would also be willing to bet that it is just not food allergies but environmental too, considering he is breaking out on his feet. There are tons of threads here about allergies. Do a search and you will be reading for days. Different things work for different dogs.

Good luck!

Our APBT used to lick her feet raw. We switched her to a raw diet and took out all chicken, grains, fruits and veggies from her diet and hardly ever licks her feet anymore and they never get to the point where they are raw.

I checked the ingredients and it has potatoes which could be the allergen. Have you changed anything in your household? Your yard? Added a new flea treatment? Changed laundry detergent? Where do you walk him? Lot of grass? Lot of plants?

Ruling out the allergen is the hard part.

Did the vet recommend benadryl to see if that would help?
