Greetings! Currently looking for a EM breeder in PA and came across Hoffman's House of Mastiffs. Does anyone have any feedback on this breeder. I believe her name is Dana Hoffman.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

They're not one I'm familer with off the top of my head, but just looking at their website:

"Champion Bloodlines" doesn't mean squat, are the parents themselves champions?

They don't tell you ANYTHING about their dogs, not even their full registered names. Do they health test? I can't find any dogs in the OFA database with that kennel name.

Who are the puppy parents? Are they only breeding their single male to their single female??

It looks like they have two litters on the ground right now...they are not listing all their breeding dogs which sends shady. They also do not seem to mention which puppies belong to which parents.

They are not a reputable breeder.

Actually, looks as if they have 3 litters on the ground. 6weeks, 8weeks and 9weeks. The price is pretty cheap. I would run from this one.

There are many good, respected breeders in that part of the country ... brain is fuzzy as to names right now. You should be able to do better than that breeder ...

Thank you very much for the replies. I have passed on this breeder due to the shadyness and cryptic emails I have received.

Currently talking to someone local to me who just had their first litter of EM puppies. Any specific questions I should ask?

What if any health-testing have the parents had? THat does NOT mean that the "vet said they're healthy!" it means hips and elbows xrayed, heart and eyes tested, genetic testing for specific problems done....

Parents or grand-parents with AKC Championships (in Mastiffs, UKC and "International" CHs are much easier to get and are far less impressive) would be good.

Grand-parents with the same sort of health testing as discussed above would be good.

You can check health testing via the OFFA website.

Also, Google the kennel names of the parents and grandparents to see if you can learn anything.

Good luck.

Not everyone agrees with me but I prefer to stick to breeders who actively show their dogs, which indicates they are striving to maintain the breed standard. This also means that people know who they are and you can get a better idea of their reputation. The breeder also really needs to care deeply about where their pups go, and want to maintain a relationship with you long-term so they can see how the pup matures.
