lol!! Well, I was going to try to type of a post, but by the time I got home I think everyone covered it. I DO highly recommend doing as much research as possible, into the breeder and the breed BEFORE meeting the pups, cause yes, once you fall in love with one forget trying to tell if the breeder's a good one or not, the pup's coming home anyways....

When we picked Gunny up, one of the first things he did right after we got on the road was sneak a silent one on us. I looked at my wife and she said "it wasn't me, must have been Gunny." It was the worst thing I had smelled in a long time. As he's gotten a little older, they've become audible and it provides quite a bit of laughter for us.

We're guilty of the same thing. This is the first dog I've ever had and wasn't well versed on breeders until learning about it on here. I still think he's a good example of the breed and don't regret getting him at all, but next time we'll know better.

rachiemay, regardless of breed standard, you did not make a mistake. You followed your heart...that can't be a mistake. Can't wait to meet Miss Duchess...

Looks like a bad arse pup to me. Lessons are learned so long as you love your dog, standard be damned. If they dont like it, let them change the standard. hahahahaha

Chuck, you hit the nail on the head!

Deb, she's excited about meeting you & Titan. I must bathe her the night before. She smells like she rolled in a pile of poo.

I posted my story about doing the same thing with Jagger . We are changing our ignorance and passing on knowledge learned that is the difference :) She is a beautiful color btw :)

I think she is beautiful and you wil find she will have periods when her head seems really small. You may not have purchased from a backyard breeder. One or two dogs does not mean a backyard breeder. My friend, who is far from a backyard breeder, has one female and she has decided to foster a pup until she decides if she likes her line. She doesn't want to produce quantity and wants to keep it to only breeding the absolute best dogs from her line. She does the testing, goes to great length to find the right male and she also feeds the puppies the best food you can imagine. I remember her phoning me grumbling that the Neo went through a hunger strike when she was pregnant and she was so worried about her and the puppies that she found the best raw recipe she could and then processed it up into a soup and used a turkey baster to feed the dog. She was practically throwing up but the dog started eating after that.

Also, her story on how she got into breeding is a rescue story when she purchased a full grown adult from a kennel whose breeder who had died. She was already looking for a puppy, wasn't interested in starting with an adult but she came across her dog. She went to see her, the grief stricken husband offered her a reduction in price to take the dog right away. She declined at first, and said she wanted to go over her papers and pedigree and would get back to him. In the end, she fell in love with the dog and ended up with her first dog for her line.

It is very easy to second guess yourself but you may have simply have come across breeders who are just starting out. I mean, you start out with one and go from there. I think she is beautiful and she looks very similar to Daisy. There are days when I look at Daisy and think, her head just seems to small compared to her chest or her mask seems kind of light. Then the next day, whatever growth had been happening has finally caught up and she looks perfect again. Of course, I love her temperament and personality so much, I would still love her even if she looked nothing like the EM breed standard.

Oh the BIG, LOUD, STINKY farts. OMG!I never in my life thought something so rotten could come out of something other then my husbands butt, but Murphy takes the cake. Heck he gets the trophy. We hear it, wait to see who claims it and once Murphy turns his head to smell his butt we know he did it. Yes I have 3 kids and a husband. Need I say more
Murphy clears the room!

You guys are the best.

First & foremost my family & I love Duchess for her personality. She's such a love bug & at the same time still such a big ol lug. Throwing those big feet around where ever she can put them. The one thing we enjoy most about her is her energy. While she holds true to the laziness of an EM, she without a doubt has 3 times the energy our first EM did. This always gives us entertainment for the day. Watching videos when she first came home & she was terrified of a squeaky toy & seeing her prance & hop around just like she does today, well she is a fun dog to have. We do love her very much & will continue to give her the best life she can have. I'll be very interested to see how her growth progresses. She started out very runty but isn't seeming to be that way anymore. We're not even through with the week & she's rapidly approaching a 4 lb weight gain this week. I think we stumbled across a growth spurt this week for sure!!

At least he gives warning that the smell is coming. About 90% of Kryten's fart are the silent but deadly type. On a side note: you can tell the two dogs farts apart by the smell (EM is much worse).

Re: I think I made a mistake...(oh & a question)

Years ago, we had a GSD/timber wolf mix. GSD's are know for sensitive stomachs, & his was vary sensitive. Any little thing that stressed him resulted in gas & diarrhea.
So one night, we were watching TV & Shiva(the dog) was laying at our feet. He would rip off one of those SDB's(silent but deadly). While the hubby could deal out some good ones, nothing compared to Shiva's. We knew right off it was his. The hubby pointed to the door, said "Shiva! Go to bed!" the dog would get up & leave the room. But he'd sneak back in after awhile. Pretty soon, another SBD. "GO TO BED!" & off he'd slink. Back again. By the 4th or 5th time Shiva would let one rip, he got up & left the room before the hubby could yell at him.

Re: I think I made a mistake...(oh & a question)

Hahaha Sherri! I am perfectly ok with the thread getting off topic. Yesterday was a long day & as I typed one of my posts in this thread with Duchess laying at my feet, she re-situated herself & I heard the smallest little "poot" come out of her butt. I look down to see if she even acknowledges that she just farted, she just looks up at me & wags her tail.

At least she farts like a lady. Lol!
