This is the first mastiff breed I’ve ever had, and also the first breed I’ve ever cared so much about training. Since we’ve gotten Lettie I’ve been obsessed with training her and teaching commands. For some reason I got it into my head that “stay” was super important. I have been focused a lot on working with her “stay” since we brought her home at 8 weeks old. And I was always careful to never let her fail at a “stay” command.
Apparently it’s paid off. Our dog trainer came over yesterday and he was super impressed with her “stay”. He was having me test her. He had me put her in a “stay” and throw her favorite ball and drop treats and drop the whole bag of treats. And she didn’t once break her focus on me! I was a little nervous that she might go for her ball, she loves that thing and I’ve never tested her with it. He said he hasn’t seen a dog her age do so well at “stay”.
That’s it. I’m just so happy and proud that she was so impressive. Now I’ll be testing her more with different distractions.
