  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

i wish I could hunt off my back porch.

Crossbows aren't legal to hunt with here, sigh. The worst part is one neighor would probly give his permission to hunt with in the 100ft of his house, but I don't think the other would.

Across the street from were I live is the un-incorporated area of the town I live in and people hunt from their back yard. Dove hunting season is in full swing and gun shots are going of all day long!! Sadie is not a big fan of gun shots:p

Well, not much further out it would be legal to hunt with only the permission of the land owner. But here in NY in order to hunt within 100yds of a residence you have to have the residence owners permission even if they don't own the land you're actually hunting on. The neighbor on one side would be just over the 100yd mark anyway, but would likely give us permission regardless. But on the otherside, due to how their house is situated, they might JUST be with in the 100yd mark, and I'm not sure THEY'D give permission. However give us a couple years and we might just see what we can do anyway....plus they keep talking about legalizing crossbows...

Apollo just ignore the gunshots though.

Get a range finder. I would check.if it were close enough to enough to question you may not even need permission.

Lotsa trees in the way :/ Looking at it on Google maps....its close, really close, like if 100ft is just over 3/4" and their house is approx 2.5" from the back line where the fruit trees are.....its not like it could happen this year anyways, I'd need to get a decent rifle and get it sighted in and there's no time/money to do that before deer season this year, we'd need to move the bonfire wood pile thats piled in the line of sight from the porch....make sure we have permission from the guy who owns the property behind us to chase a deer across his land in case one runs....I just look at the trail cam pictures periodically and wish we had time to do something this year! The dogs would enjoy the results as much as I would.

At that range. I would Pop with a quiet small caliber. Especially on my own property.

Its highly tempting. And likely what we'll end up doing and see if they complain. There are enough gunshots in the area during season that they may not even notice as long as its not the 12gauge.....just not this year. Its one of those things we've had in the back of our heads since we bought the place though, and why we put up trail cams this year. And heck, maybe I"ll get lucky and NY will legalize crossbows between now and then!

Awesome! I hunt in Wisconsin during shotgun/muzzleloader season. Look forward to going this year as I hear there is a large buck living in the woods right near by dad's house. There are certain counties in the state that allow rifles but the county my dad lives in does not at this time. I'd be a little afraid to use a rifle on his property as there are roads & houses nearby. I wouldn't hunt within 100 yards of them with a rifle period.

He sent me some trail cam pics the other day one was a nice sized doe & the other you can tell was a buck, but the pic was kind of blurry so you couldn't hardly see the size of his rack. Last year a nearby neighbor's wife took a nice sized 11 point. He was HUGE.

Actually made some deer sausage & scrambled egg breakfast burritos a couple weeks ago & was the last of my meat from last year. Looking forward to this year & more meat.

Bows are legal, but due to arthritis I'm not sure I could pull one of enough weight to be lethal to an animal the size of a white-tail, especially from distance. And husband's not big on bow. My FIL is though, maybe I'll invite him over to hunt and tell him he has to split the meat.

Raechiemay, the direction I'd be shooting in (assuming positioned on my back porch) there's no houses (or roads) for miles, though I can't swear as to the occasional hiker or other hunter, infact the problem house mentioned above is the only one thats "behind" us in relation to the road, and they're pretty far off to the side (just close enough to be a potential issue legally *sigh*). The folks we bought the house from had trophys taken in hunt off the end of the property, 7 and 8 points easy. We picked up these trail cams on sale and I'm awed at the quality of the photos we're getting.

What trail cams did you get? I'd like to get some for our new place.

Welcome! These are cool cause they record the temperature and barametrics as well as time/date to go with the picture. We're having fun with them.
