Capping will help with the over excitement. I do it to my girl all the time I do it when she is in the middle of hard play with her brother and she will now at four months stop and drop what she is doing and sit. So when she is lunging after my three year old and I see she is obviously to worked up to play nice I can yell sit from across the house and she stops and states at me .
