It likes he needs surgery again

The Little Monster apparently decided that I shouldn't be at work today. Instead that was supposed to spend my time at the vets office since it is considered an emergency when a 200 lbs dog refuses to use one of his front legs when the other front leg is also messed up. One look at how he was walking and I knew the fragment in his right elbow had broken free. His regular vet thinks the x-rays confirm it and now we are just waiting for the surgeon's opinion but it is almost 100% certain that he is going to need his right elbow 'fixed' now.

The right elbow was the good elbow? Poor guy.
Based on the original x-rays the fragment in the right side is likely larger than the one in the left but since it wasn't causing problems yeah I guess that was his good elbow.

Thanks for the good wishes.
This time is going to have an additional hurdle. He didn't come into his full guarding temperment until after his recovery last time. He wants to investigate every sound he hears and is getting frustrated by not being able/allowed. Combine that with the fact the pain medication he is on makes him grumpy and far less patient with Jiggers too has been an interesting couple of days.

So sorry to hear this!
Is there a different pain med he can take that doesn't make him grumpy ? Or you could add some Xanax?

I think Lisa P is right Smokeycat. What ever pain med he is on isn't helping him, he's still in pain, that's why he's grumpy. He needs his meds changed. Good luck, I know what it is like to have a big dog with bilateral elbow displasia.

All the other pain meds tried have caused him to throw up. We just have to make sure that Jiggers gets more exercise because he can't play with Kryten and when bored he shows why his nickname is Brat. Tiring Jiggers out means that he doesn't try and push Kryten to play.
Typically Tramadol causes sedation in dogs, in a few like Kryten, it can cause aggression instead. The vet is aware and feels that it is his best option as long as I feel that I can keep both dogs safe. Since I've gone through this before I know that all it takes is managing their interactions and draining Jiggers extra energy through increased walk/runs.

Aw man, poor Kryten!! Has he had the surgery yet? Poor fella has had it rough... hopefully after this one, he will be all fixed up and never need anymore surgeries! Sending healing vibes his way. Let us know how you guys make out. Good luck :)

His consultation is next Tuesday with the possibility of same day surgery.

I just left him at the surgery to get his operation on his elbow as well as a lump removed from his side. The regular feels that it likely is just a cyst but since he's going under the knife anyway were just going to remove it.

Just heard that he came through surgery great and that the lump was just a sebaceous cyst. The surgeon made me laugh when she made the comment that it turns out moving an unconscious 87kg dog was more difficult than expected. Turns out he lost 3 kg in the last 2 weeks which to be honest is less than expected given how difficult getting him to eat has been.
