A deadly toxin has one dog fighting for its life in Kalispell. Vets believe it's something of which pet owners need to be aware.

The Flathead Animal Clinic is treating the dog for blue green algae poisons. It has liver failure. The clinic says blue green algae under the right conditions, hot, dry, and calm weather, creates a poisonous substance. Dr. Kelly Rankin doesn't want pet owners to stop allowing their animals in bodies of water altogether, but she does believe it is better to avoid most algae in any water. That's because it is often difficult to distinguish at a glance which algae is toxic.

The substance can cause respiratory problems and bodily irritation to humans.
