Hello everybody, I am new to Mastiff Forum. I LOVE big dogs. I recently took over the care of my brother's Bull Mastiff, but I am unable to keep him because I also have a very dog aggressive Chow. Hercules is a 3 y.o. 120 lb hunk of love. He has excellent manners on a leash. He is micro chipped and neutered, up to date on all shots and in need of a FOREVER home with experienced mastiff owners.

I would recommend contacting Bullmastiff rescue, I don't know where you live but here in new england I have dealt with them a couple of times and they were really great. They may either have people on a waiting list or a foster home available. if you knew who the breeder was you could also contact them, most reputable breeders will take their dogs back...if he got it at a petstore then forget that idea

Herc was dumped, so there's no breeder. My brother took him from a friend who found him. He posted lost and found for 6 months, but got no replies. Finally decided to neuter him and keep him. A year later he lost his job and his house and couldn't take him to the apartment. There aren't many bull mastiff rescues in my part of Texas, but I am willing to keep him until I find him the right home. I do love him, and I'd like to keep him, but the other dog makes it almost impossible and very unfair to Herculese.

In the mean time, does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with the DA chow? He doesn't hurt Herc when I'm around and I otherwise keep them separated. The chow will not stop with simple dominance. The door got left open once and Herc paid the price, he is now terrified of the chow. I feel terrible about it and don't know what else to do. My children now pay better attention to closing doors, and we don't want it to happen again.

i was thinking if you found a bullmastiff breeders in your area or close to it you could also ask them if they could help you find a good home for Herc

The only thing to do it crate and rotate, its not worth taking any chances, especially with children. There are people that keep multiple DA dogs but they are always separated and it takes alot of time and responsibility to prevent accidents. Have you had any luck with mastiff rescues? Have you tried petfinder? Also there is http://www.bullmastiff.us/rescue/index.html

the person who does Bullmastiff rescue in this area is Virginia Rowland her e-mail is: blackslate@aol.com her number is 978-424-1044. I would suggest contacting her and asking her for some rescue resources in your area. In the meantime crate and rotate for sure, it's the safest way to maintain everyone
