78 years old, living in the boonies. I'm owned by an 11 year old Lab/Newfie, and just added a 7 week old Cane Corso. I've always been owned by large dogs Shepherds, Newfies, Danes, and my wife and I raised pure wolves for 15 years. I'm a widower, and lately there have been break ins around our area, and since my very first dog owned me from the time I was 6 years old to 12 years old. He was a Dogue de Bordeaux. Nowadays they call Mastiffs "velcro dogs. At 6 years old he was a tattoo dog, there were very rare moments when he wasn't touching me in some way. He protected me from a few odd ball folks that tried to give me a ride, and from a few teenage bullies that thought a 10 or 11 year old was a good target. Butch convinced them otherwise.
I got "Grump" about a week ago, because I remember very well how protective the Mastiff was that owned me then, and at my age, I'm not "John Wayne" anymore. Though there was a time........ Another story! I'm uncertain how much life my Lab/Newfie has, so I needed to consider protection for me, since there are no other humans living in my home.. The other consideration is the shorter life span that Mastiffs have, Research tells me that a Cane Corso is on average an 8 to 10 year critter. That's fine with me. I'm not even sure I'll make that range, but I wanted it to be a close call for him and I. I don't want to burden someone with a dog they are incapable of dealing with should I die, before he does. Training is going to be odd for me, It's been 11 years since I've had a puppy, and at this age, memories come and go. With a large part on the way out. No family left, and only the present to deal with. The future looks boring as hell, but I love big dogs, so that is a saving grace.

Richard, I hope your 78 years young cuz you took on a whole lot of responsibility.. Ours started right about that age and I can't tell ya how many times I bled, LOL... Your going to have to make sure you got plenty of toys stuck in your depends LOL.. I'ma 61 year young farmer and owner of a 8 month old ball of high energy.. She will likely be our last dog unless the wife insists on a little piss ant pooch.. I hope you have a decent amount of turf for the boy to expel all the juices of a pup..Your right ours is just like a tattoo always in contact in the house.. You know, you can post pictures of your pup, you can even build ya a diary of his growth here.. If you take pictures with a phone hold the phone horizontal so the pictures aren't presented here sideways.. Since ya probably have time add a story to the pictures.. Build something you'll enjoy yourself and I'll poke my head it when I see it.. God luck Sir..
