Non healing sore....

Emma has had a sore on her ear for quite a while. At first I thought it was just from the dogs playing rough but it does not seem to be healing.

. I would say it has been a month and it is still open like this. Sometimes it is scabbed over. This morning I had the awful thought do dogs get skin cancer? Anyone seen anything like this before?

Poor girl, that looks painful. It actually looks like what my parents' dog, Poochie, used to get on his ears in the summer. He was a 100% outside dog and the flies would bite his ears. Except his were on the top. It looked exactly like that, including the crusting around the edges. I know that's not it with Emma, but it sure does look similar. I'd take her in since you've given it plenty of time to heal on its own.

Thanks for the feedback BG. Sometimes I feel like a helicopter mom with her. Her file at the vet is twice that of my other two combined and they are 9&10! I'll get her in today.

Looks like a minor infection. She got some antibiotics and a topical spray. :)

even if she can't reach it , if you got more than one dog , sometimes you need to cover a wound to keep the other dogs from constantly licking it ...........

Had the same thing.
Sore refused to heal and would scab but would reopen wit every shake of my dogs head.

Had to use a little apoquel to reduce the itchy sensation - and when coupled with neosporin it healed completely in 1.5 weeks.

How is Emma's ear doing?

I hope things are healing up nicely (?)

Better, thanks! She has a yeast infection in the other ear so is still flapping but the sore is almost totally healed.
