Not dog related, exercising with activity trackers - question for fit bit users

Oh there was plenty of staggering as well lol but I think mostly it was the 2 hrs of sleep a night and being on our feet the rest of the time that made me win fitbit during the trip lol
The 2 hrs of sleep a night is still kicking my butt
How long does it take to recover from vegas? :/

Some people never recover you find them on the streets pushing shopping carts and wearing every piece of clothing they own eating out of garbage cans and soup kitchens, standing on freeway off ramps with signs that say hungry and homeless and Vegas or Bust! ;)

Does anybody use the exercise tracker on the app? I just switched from the iPhone 5 to a Samsung S6 and while the iPhone app seemed reasonably close the android app is ridiculously high. My walk to work went from 1.8 miles to 4.1 miles (5.0 miles for the return trip which was a bit longer but only a couple of blocks). The android numbers look like they should be km but the app is set for miles. Are these problems normal for the android app?

I'm an iphone girl so not sure but that does sound really off. Did you alter where/how you hold the android phone versus when you had the iphone?

haha not quite the problem I'm having. More like I just want to catch up on all that sleep I missed and detox from the drinking. I have been drinking copious amounts of water and coffee since and am still feeling a bit sluggish. lol

But, I need to recover within the next week because we have our annual vacation (both Sean and I) planned in about a week. Going to San Diego again. :)

Of course I am also worried sick about leaving Diesel without either of us for a few days. But, we have a really great dog hotel to take him to which he has already been to for a day care visit so he knows the people. They don't allow interaction between dogs either so no worries on that front. Just lots of people play and walk time which he will love.

Nope both phones were in my purse. I have a One that is attached to my bra so the actual tracker is the same and hasn't moved either. The number of steps is still accurate it's just the distance and therefore the activity level that is messed up.

So, the whole idea of the tracker is to turn your exercise into data? The data being compared to what? Your goals and other people's exercise data to help motivate and see if you are on track? Basically turning it into a game of some sort?

It actually sounds kind of cool.

Yes exactly! So for fitbit you have a step goal for each day and mine is 10,000 steps and it buzzes when you hit the goal. There's also a miles goal and a calories burned goal and steps goal each day. You can also sync up with friends also using fitbit and challenge each other. So it's definitely like a game of sorts and is a huge motivation. :)

I go for a walk every time my mastiffs take me on one lol. Usually once a day and by the end, Hank is dragging ass. Roxy prob could go for more but she is so young and boney. I feel like she needs to eat some pork chops and/or a gallon of ice cream.

If I synced with my wife she'd kick my ass. She works at a rehab center and the veterans hospital so if she isn't charting she's constantly visiting patients in their rooms and taking vitals. MY neighbor friends are smokers. I smoked for more than half my life and I'm only 29, been four months since I've had a "stinkie". So they wouldn't be much competition.

I thought I was going to blow up like a balloon after I quit smoking but so far I've been steadily losing weight without much effort. Spend most of my time sitting in front of the computer =/

I bet I could stand a chance at winning if it counted keystrokes =P Wonder how many calories that burns?

So I have a question. How accurate are the step counts? I literally just got the Fitbit Charge HR yesterday, and I feel like it's overestimated my steps by quite a lol. Right now I'm at like 13,000 steps and like 5.5 miles, and I still have at least four more active hours of the day left (haven't even walked my dogs yet). Granted, I am on my equine rotation right now, so I have to walk our horse patients around and around and around, but I don't know about 5 miles worth. Is there a way to calibrate it to my stride or something? I am not tech savvy, lol.

I have found it to be very accurate (when I march in place to up my numbers I have counted just to see). But, you do need to make sure you are wearing it on your non-dominant wrist. So since I am right handed I wear it on my left wrist.

I've also found with mine it will count some steps when I am riding the train or driving over a bumpy road, it will also go into sleep mode when I clap or am pushing a shopping cart through the parking lot. For the most part it's fairly accurate, but I do take those little things into account and just use it as a guideline since nothing is perfect.

Mine seems to under count. It doesn't count dancing as any steps at all which I think dancing ought to count. lol

Ok, thanks for the input! I wear mine on my non-dominant hand, but have it set to dominant hand. I'd rather it under count that over count!

If any of you are using your fitbit and want me to add you as a friend just send me your e-mail address and I will add you. I have a few friends and like to use that to challenge myself to keep up with my exercise routine.
