Overweight? Seeking guidance

Hi all,

This is my boo baby Minnie Mouse. She is 15 months old and weighing in at 141.

Minnie is a SUPER picky eater. We feed her about 4 cups of puppy food per day. She eats maybe 2/3s of that LOL
She loves treats (but not all) and will leave food lying after having it for more than a day or two. Variety is key/. We became concerned about her picky eating when she went a whole day without eating and started to vomit stomach bile. We started her on dry with a topping of wet or chicken and consulted her vet

Her vet feels that she is overweight, we feed her too much and should take her off treats entirely. He says that she should weigh no more than 120 and we should be able to see her ribs. This just seems wrong, and one of the full-grown Mastiff pictures I see or even puppy/adolescent mastiffs show much rib. And none of this solves the problem of her not eating plain dry food and making herself sick to avoid it.

So I could use some advice. Lately, it's been impossible to get a visit with her vet. All communication comes through messages with the vet tech and this advice just doesn't seem right to me. Do I need to look for a new vet or does my baby need a diet? Also, any advice on picky eaters would help.

Minnie looks adorable, love the name .
From the pic she doesnt look overweight but if you can post one of her standing i could see better.
I would change her food to adult, she doesnt need the puppy food, get a good kibble, i cant feed anything chicken based, many mastiffs are allergic to chicken and mine are..
What food are you feeding her, as it always beem the same.
If your not happy with her vet, change get another, i always like to feel comfident with my vet.
Ill come back o later to help with the food ect.

We stuck with the food her breeder recommended as long as we've had her; Purina Pro Plan Puppy Dry. She gets about a cup and a half three times a day. Right now she's on Beef flavor but has also had chicken and lamb. Lately, (just the past couple of weeks) we've tried mixing a third of a can of wet and taking her dry down by about a 1/2 a cup per feeding.

Her vet called today; he asserts that these "lazy" breeds do not need as many calories. She's not eating because she is being overfed. His recommendation is that we reduce her 3-4 cups a day to "just what she will eat" and forbid all treats until she starts eating again. He insists we should be able to see her ribs or feel them with the flat of our plan without "pressure" or she is obese and needs to come down in weight. I'm starting to feel he just might not know the breed very well.

Hope this gives you what you need. ANY feedback is welcome!!!

My opinion, she doesnt look overweight, i really would get her off puppy food, mine was off puppy food by aroundc20 weeks old, slow and steady growth, keep her lean, try feeding her twice a day, morning and evening, whdn you can the adult food read the feeding advice, i wouldnt worry about her not eating the full amounts.shes not underweight.
Ring round different vets, try and find one thats good with mastiffs, mine are not lazy.
