Question about visiting a breeder

I been researching EM breeders looking to get a EM puppy. I called one breeder to see about coming out and talking about their breeding. I was informed they don't let people come to their house. I would not consider getting a puppy from a breeder that I don't see the location. So what I'm asking is I'm I off base?

Thanks

Did they state why? Some won't let outsiders on the property when theres a new litter on the ground for the safety/health of the new pups. But ifit was a flat no, period. Then no, I'd not be willing to buy either.

She said she was concerned about vandalism and thief since they live in rural area. She didn't have puppies at the time.

Is her address on her site? You could do a driveby without telling her.....but I find that most, if not all, good breeders understand that puppy buyers wantto see where the pup is coming from to be sure its not a puppy mill......

I would not be comfortable with said breeder. I could understand if she had puppies on the the ground and was concerned with disease, but not someone who doesn't want you to see their breeding property.

Or if a bitch was in heat right then, or something like that, but a flat out no comes across as fishy frankly....

Thanks, my concern is making sure it isn't a puppy mill type. You say anything online and put pictures up that s not accurate, I just want to make sure we get a healthy puppy.

Don't blame you.

Have you tried doing an online search to see what you can find? You do have to take negetive reviews with a grain of salt, but it might give you an idea. Assuming that the rest of what you're getting from her comes accross as ok of course.

When I first started contacting breeders, every one of them encouraged me to visit and meet their dogs. And they all told me to visit as many different breeders as I could to get an idea of what the dogs would be like. I don't think I'd get a puppy from a breeder that didn't want me to visit. Actually, now I might find it odd if the breeder didn't expect me to visit before selling me a puppy. They should want to meet you as much as you should want to meet them.

I wonder if she's had dogs stolen before?
I'd want to see the place before I put any money down, for sure.

Thanks, contacted another breeder and she was very informative and offered for us to come out to see her place and dogs.

Skip the place they would't let you visit, whatever their reasons are. Focus on those who are welcoming. There are always others.

hahaha i thought half the point of owning a mastiff breed was so you didn't need to worry about things like theft and vandalism????

Please make sure they have had testing done on adults, hips, etc. Please make sure the puppies are not 'barn' raised/adults kept in the barn, even though you are told they are inside dogs. Ask to talk with other people who bought their puppies. A life time ago when I had puppies (not mastiff) I would refer past buyers as reference. You are in KY, there is a breeder that talks the talk but hasn't followed thru and is real close to a puppy mill, 3 females and a lot of puppies since we got ours. We have had behavior problems with Snookums, our EM. She was left in a barn stall or cage most of her puppyhood, in litter mess. She was purchased in Elizabethtown, KY. Yes a professional trainer helped, White Fang Ventures or Matt Duffy out of Louisville is excellent. Most of all, visit with your eyes wide open.

Thanks, I know both the female and male have been tested. We went and visited her, not in Elizabethtown two weeks ago.

LOL, my breeder will NOT sell a puppy to someone that won't come meet him. If you can't pick up your pup in person then it is not the right breeder for you. I drove 7000km's 2 x to get my dogs. Lol, he would ship me one now, but to be honest I like the trip, the visit and getting to hang with the dogs :D
