Raw costs vs pet food question

The butcher lets me mix the case of liver and kidneys to make 60lbs. There are economies of scale. Buying in bulk does require some freezer space. But considering I pay $0.60 vs $3.00, and assuming 3 lbs a day, that is a difference of $7.20/day. Or $216/month. You can go buy a chest freezer from costco for $179!

The problem I found with buying wholesale is you have to fill your freezer with things that you don't feed that often. Like 60lbs of liver, it should only be 5% of their diet.

The benefits of a co-op, I can usually split the cases of organs with one or more people!

Strait, you're chicken's so cheap because of where you are, theres at least two major chicken producers located in or very near near MD.

I'm too old to bend over a chest freezer. LOL

A lot of what is on your list is way too much bone to feed regularly. Within the scales of economy you have to be able to feed a balanced diet.

You can feed a balanced diet with out paying grocery store prices. I would imagine beef prices are cheaper in the mid west then they are on the east coast. $3.00/lb seems crazy high to me. How much meat are you buying at a time?

I found a couple co-ops. The beef is $1.60lb and tripe is $1.65. Duck frames are .71lb. That's the cheapest so far around here. I've got a list of butchers I'm calling too.

FYI, when I first called the chicken distributor they were adamant they don't sell to the public only businesses. I talked to the sales manager and told him what I was buying the chicken for and he got an account set up for me. And the beef distributor told me to use a fake restaurant name when I place my order, lol!
