RAW - Just Leraning as I GO

Titan doesn't eat raw liver. I bake it for about 15 mins. I add garlic, olive oil, and grated parmesan cheese and he wolfs it down.

I second that bone is really important. Remember, the bone must have enough meat on the bone. I feed Titan frozen chicken leg quarters, chicken gizzards or hearts, and chicken liver for his meal every day. He eats approximately 3 lbs of food once a day.

80/10/10 is the ratio I use (rough ratio). 80% protein, 10% bone, 10% organ. Every dog is different but the earlier a dog starts raw the better they are later on for changing protein, eating different things, and being open minded to new foods. The less a dog is exposed to, generally the less they will be willing to eat. Also, I feed roughly 1-4% of body weight of dog for adult & 4-8% of body weight for a pup. Some days these ratio's go out the window though as dogs might just not be hungry or will sometimes want to test to see if they can get something "special" if they don't eat the normal food I give them.

My 6 month pup eats EVERYTHING including raw liver, veggies, whole chickens and any pork/beef that I put in front of her chomper. My Bulldog is a little picky and does not eat that much in general but keeps a sort of fat-man appearance. My Presa will ONLY eat drumsticks, rears, and pork/beef; she will not touch any whole chickens. All of them LOVE raw eggs and any rice/grains. I stopped all processed grains about 4 months ago and will only occassionally give them a small bit of rice. Basically I do my best to mimic what a dog would actually get in the wild.

There is no exact science to doing this besides keeping track of what you feed each dog roughly so as if they do get overweight or go under you can alter. Be creative and enjoy it!

My rottweiler wont eat liver unless it's frozen or dehydrated. Dehydrating it really stinks so I rarely do that. She also likes eating fish frozen instead of raw. It's a texture thing with her and if she doesn't like the texture she gags. She is 95lbs and eats a chicken leg querter a day with a few eggs every few days (I have hens and someone has to eat the extra eggs). I think she eats a pound and a half or less a day. For her activity level and size, she doesn't eat much.. I feed according to how her body looks.

LMAO

Took Tess to the vet for her cartrophen shot. Vet is really pleased with how she looks and that she's lost 5 lbs (yay). So she's 125 now. Found out everyone who works in that office feeds their own dogs raw so was able to get some good hints where to get more meat from. There is a butcher not far from here who has done all the research and feeds his own large dogs raw. He sells the meat in the right portions at $1.99 lb. Sounds good so far. Probably wont get there until at least Friday to check it out but Im looking forward to it.

So I checked him out. Looks pretty good. He actually got the formula from the vet and he follows it very closely. He has two presa/pit mixes, they are litter mates and he feeds them this mixture. I'll attach here what the vet gave him.

Feeding Amounts & Equation
· Total amount to feed daily: 2-3%
Example: 50 lb dog
50lbs /0.02 = 1lb of food daily.
For grams: 1lb x 454 = 454 grams daily
For ounces: 1lb x 16 = 16 ounces daily

Divide the total into 2 equal portions. ½ for breakfast, ½ for dinner.

Feeding Composition
1. 65% protein including bone and organ
· Varied muscle meats
o Lamb, Duck, Beef, Chicken, Turkey, Buffalo, Bison, Venison, Lamb
· 10% organ
o Heart, Kidney, Liver
· 5% bone

2. 35% veggies
· Variety of leafy greens
o Spinach, Kale, Bok choy
· Fruits
o Berries, Pears, Apples
· Root veggies
o Squash, Zucchini, Pumpkin, Carrot, Yam, Sweet potato

3. Multi-vitamin

4. Essential Fatty Acids (Omega 3)

TOXIC - Grapes, Raisins or Onions, Garlic (large amounts can be toxic), Mushrooms

Monitoring
Weight check recommended every 7-10 days to ensure weight is stable. Adjust amounts accordingly.

So for the meat packages, he packs them in baggies of about 1 lb each, and he has bison, chicken and beef. Im excited about this.

Ok - question. What are some of the items your doggies like best? And what do you find easiest?

Chrissy, my dogs love chicken, pork, beef .. and all but 1 also love venison - for me chicken/pork/beef are the easiest, I get venison whenever I can score some via my ad on CL.
