Red scaly patches and local hair loss on my Cane Corso

bviblue

My Cane Corso has developed these patches of hair loss. The usually start with a red sore, and hair loss, they heal very quickly leaving a bald patch. I made the mistake of feeding him some different food for breakfast for about a week....stopped when i saw this..and reverted to his usual kibble but the sores keep coming.
Any Ideas gratefully recieved.
PS I live on a caribbean Island and dont really trust the "vet" here

They are hotspots but from what is the question. You said you live in the Carribean has it been hotter than normal? Any area been sprayed with any chemicals lately? Eating anything else (other than what you already specified)?Exposed to anything different in the last month or 2?

When I volunteered at the local animal shelter, we had a couple of pups with demodex mange. The bald spots covered a lot of their body, does your pup have a lot of hair loss spots?

Here's some info to help you out: Mange | ASPCA

Unfortunately, demodex mange requires medication to kill the mites. I'm sure others will post here for some home remedies, or I hope they will since you do not like your vets. Ask your friend at the Humane Society for a home remedy.

It is NOT round worm.
and a skin scrape at vet, will diagnose immediately. Whereas a dog forum can only guess.

I think maybe you are thinking of ring worm. The vet is your best bet because several skin conditions look very similar. Demodex is not contagious, but ring worm and sarcoptic mange are. I'd have it checked out.
