  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Rehoming fees....seriously

In alot of cases thats the best option. But in most them cases it's the best option only cause the owner failed to do their job. Theres very few cases in the big picture where crappy circumstance is the issue. Unless the circumstance is self generated.

But I agree, sometimes there's simply no other option

Giving up a dog for various reasons is fine... but trying to make a profit off of someone giving your dog a home is trashy

I'm not judging those with situations who are out of control. My issue is those that try to make a profit from it. Also IMO I feel that many situations could be avoided if people would quit thinking short term. When you get a pet its a lifelong commitment.

This cracks me up b/c when I was doing dog rescue ... we pulled & I fostered a 3 legged senior beagle & OMG never again will there be a beagle in this house - this was our first experience with one & though he was the sweetest old fart you'd ever meet ..omgosh he liked to lay on the top of couch & barking/howling out of our living room window  He was adopted to a young woman whose dad had past away but when was alive had lost both his legs so she wanted to help out a special needs dog....old goat is still kicking it & is spoiled rotten :)

When I'm on CL I flag anything over $200 and anything that looks like a litter/breeding even if they ask less than $200

Lame excuses...moving, new baby, new job. I've NEVER given up a pet; they're part of the family. Just like I wouldn't give up my kids or my husband (well; maybe the hubby...in fact I did :) )

I agree....I get so sick of all the excuses I see on CL for why people are getting rid of their pets! I'd live in my car before giving up my dog!

I especially hate to see people rehoming their 10 -12 yr old dog that they've had since it was a puppy ...how sad and confusing for the dog!

I am dedicated to my animals. They are more of a family to me than some of my own (human) family. If I had to move, I could NEVER get rid of them. I would just live in a shanty (well, I kind of do already lol). If I ever have kids (not that I ever plan to) then my kids are going to understand how to treat animals. My mastiff is so great with little kids. The adults might be scared of him but he loves little kids. My other dogs pretty much hate them but they would learn to love my own children since they would be part of our pack family. The point is, unless im dead, they are staying with me.

How horrible to get rid of an animal you have had for YEARS. Its devastating to dogs especially, being such a social, family oriented animal. Seeing dogs tied up outside is just as bad if you ask me (although if they are working animals and get exercise and mental stimulation, thats fine. But really, most of them are just forgotten pets.)

Now here is where I may get flamed. I found Dozer on craigslist. I know...I know. I could not afford to buy a puppy at a grand a pup. I was looking for a third and final dog. I wanted a large protection breed. My lab is getting older and I want to make sure to have at least one large dog to warn me of potential threats and be scary looking. I looked for mastiffs and rottweilers all over the place, shelters, ads, etc. Then I cam across an ad for an eight month old brindle male mastiff. It was amazing because I said if I got a mastiff, I would want an English brindle male. He was house broken, had gone to obedience class, etc. He was the product of a divorce, poor guy. He was obviously the man's dog. The woman could care less about him and even agreed the rehoming fee (which I am kind of embarrassed to tell you what it was) was not high enough for his breed.

I got very lucky with Dozer though. He is an EXCELLENT dog and if you asked me if I would do it again I would in a heartbeat. I don't know if I will ever find such an amazing find again. So I am glad they got rid of him because of some lame excuse. Otherwise he might have stayed with them and been miserable. I do my best for my dogs (and the darn cat too).

We recently lost our Sheppard to a flipped stomach. He went into cardiac arrest and we had no time to get him from the vet to the university for surgery. We had him for 5 yrs. He was the perfect pet. Loyal, trusting, protective, and so much fun! My house became so sad and lonely that after swearing I would never get another pet, onto the computer I went. My husband use to have 2 mastiffs and has always wanted another one. I started finding when litters were gonna be due and figured by the end of the year we would get a puppy. Then there was an ad on a website for a EM needing to be rehomed. I replied to it and 2 days later I got the call from them. We went to see the big guy and then came the question "how much". And as respectable, loving, pet owners the price was "A GOOD HOME'. I looked at my husband and he said to them that I was disgusted in people trying to make a profit on what was suppose to be a family member. I know I would never sell my kids, so why sell my pet. Its wrong, wrong, wrong
