I'm posting this here and not specifically in the raw diet section because there have also been multiple people who's dogs have ongoing issues with acne as well or may otherwise be thinking about switching, and this has made a huge difference. We worked out the loose stools, that was definitely due to too much organ too soon. I'm now feeding a complete grind with one chicken/duck foot thrown in to add a little more bone. I have about 30 pounds of grind left from my original order, so I'm going to use that up and then start to maybe venture out into meaty bone rather than the grind. Not 100% on that since it's working so well for us. My BF caught me about 25 pounds of fish, too, so Yogi can dig into that once it's been frozen for a while. Since I fed a really high quality kibble, I wasn't expecting a huge change in things like coat and general appearance that can improve with raw, and I really haven't seen a lot of outward differences, but things I have noticed are:
1. dogs are not as obsessive about food - they no longer wake me up in the morning begging and freaking out because it is time to get fed. I feed once a day, about mid morning to mid day and they are completely content until then. Begging for "people" food has seemed to become much less intense, as well.
2. Even with the grind rather than whole cuts or bones, they have slowed down their eating. No more gulping.
3. Tiny poop
4. Much better breath, even though I brushed and they regularly got meaty bones to chew while on a kibble diet.
5. ZERO ear infections
6. By far the most noticeable and the final impetus for the change - Lillie's acne. It was so bad the underside of her chin would get like it was impacted, she would bleed everywhere when pimples popped open and she was getting infections from the open sores. Here's a picture of her face shortly before we switched. You can see some of it, but what you don't see is the swollen, bloody mess of the underside of her chin, so it was actually a lot worse than what this picture shows
And today, after about 3-4 weeks on raw. I'm not using anything, no medication, no acne pads, nothing
She does have a few, and I think some scars, but they are going away. And yes, it was very hard to get her to stay still...
