and here's a disclaimer to all the 'potential' comments coming my way for this: if u respund deffensivley...u prety mutch just addmited to bein in tha rong.

Dude, grow up, arguing with you automatically means I'm wrong?? What sort of world do you live in where you're king?

I do NOT think its to much to expect of people to do a search of the forum (or even the sub forum since we have one) for their topic. How many threads now have we gone over whats involved with responsible dog breeding? Just in this breeding sub-section? Never mind the rest of the board? In pretty much the exact same words? Heck, we had the dude with the "rare breed" mutt for stud up in the general topic all of what, a week ago? And that was a multi-page thread on the subject of responsible breeding. So yah, when someone posts "its going to cost me X amount to get the breeding rights and the breeder says I can make X amount each time he's bred" I am going to make some assumptions.

Oh, and Walnut ALWAYS posts like that, very few posts of hers don't have that tone. And if you haven't figured out by now that I AM blunt and focused you've not been reading. Hell, half the time I don't remember to say "HI! Post puppy pictures!" to the new TM folks while I'm responding to their posts.

But it is too much to expect that you give new members the benefit of the doubt? These kind of questions come in all the time, and that's not going to change. The forum doesn't need knowledgable people giving newbies a hard time. And you are definitely knowledgable, a great asset to a lot of new and old members alike, that doesn't give you the right to be high and mighty and talk down to people because they didn't do a search before asking their question.

Have a little humility Ruth, you were a newbie at some point too.

How was I talking down? I stated I agreed with Walnut as to testing required for breeding, and that from the initial description I didn't think much of the breeder in question either (and that hasn't changed BTW), and since the OP had already stated how offended they were I added that this wasn't the sort of place to cheer on someone looking to breed without alot more info on them. Apparently THAT was also highly offensive, so cool, I'm supposed to be offensive, I can do that.....

And I was never new, I was born old, didn't you know! ;)

The breeder just sent me 24 pictures of the litter, my heart is officially melted. I am not sure when I get to pick him out, or how many people are ahead of me, but they are all super cute anyways!

I'm not sure I found anything in the standard confusing. I've done so much reading in the last couple of weeks preparing myself for our new adventure. Everything has been building on each other and I'm really starting to get a sense of who my dog is. I know there will still be quite a bit of learning left to do, there is always something to learn. But I think what's most important to learn I will learn from him coming home. My other dog is half pit half border collie (he personality is mostly collie) and just by being in his life the last 5 years I really get a sense of both breeds and I understand his intentions in the things he does around the house. I'm still going to do more research and read through things here though, don't get me wrong.

Many find it helpful to feed out of a raised food dish.

Have you researched bloat? When compared to other types of emergencies, outs one of the more common ones and it can be fatal.

Feed a good grain free kibble if you don't feed raw. Focus on the radio of potassium to calcium. The closer to 1:1 the better.

Never feed puppy food.

Yes, we are going to have a raised dish, we have one for Rufus too and he is only a medium sized dog.
You said you feed your dog kirklands brand? We have a sams club membership I wonder if they have a similar food. We might be feeding them raw, but it's costly so we haven't made that decision yet

I can't chime in on the breeding question but I can tell you that you will never find a group of people who love their mastiffs more than those on this board. There are several who were always here for me when I struggled with issues having to do with my Franklin, issues I helped to create unwittingly. Sure, they kicked me in the ass when I needed it, but only because they care about the breed. If I were you, I'd listen.

I can't tell you about Sams Club ... other than WalMart and Costco are very different corporations with (typically) very different views on quality.

I think a lot of this could be avoided with a sticky post at the top. Some sort of Breeding 101 post that says: Read me before posting.

I see that on a lot of forums to limit the amount of repeat questions or to make it clear what sort of things are acceptable.

Probly, but people don't read those either. Though if there probly ought to be a sticky advising people that breeding discussion is taken very seriously here and to expect to get questioned closely and in blunt language! But yah, the people who SHOULD read such first never do.....

There will be a sticky, and it will address both the newbs and the "senior" members of this forum.
It might not be today, it might not be tomorrow. But it will be. From a Mod point of view, we are done with a few things.
