Hi:

I will be getting my EM in 4 weeks. I have been reading and researching like a crazy person. I am so happy to have found this group. I am learning a lot. Does anyone tether instead of using a crate?

Welcome aboard~ I've used crate training. You've come to the right place for everything you need to know about Mastiffs!

I use a tether when one of the dog's has gotten out of control. This is usually Jiggers my Irish Setter X whose energy level is best described as the energizer bunny on speed. To this point I haven't had to tether my EM Kryten. For housebreaking I used a crate for when I wasn't home and at night and constant vigilance when I was. Tone honest I don't think a tether would have worked for Kryten because of how much he sleeps.

I am going to use a tether outside so he can't stray far when going potty, but when he is inside he is either right at my feet (I think he likes me) or I constantly have my eye on him. I have only left him at home by himself twice and he is always in the kennel. He cries for a little bit, but after awhile he calms down and goes to sleep. He is kenneled at night, too.

This forum is a wealth of information and caring people. I don't know what I would have done without the help. Welcome!
