Just out of curiosity, what do people think of the Cane Corso? I just the short time I've had them, I've read and heard all about how dangerous they were, and your really needed to dominate them, which seems counter productive to me. I understand about being the pack leader and all that, but is breaking their spirit really necessary? I gotta believe just being a responsible dog owner, meaning consistent, will do the trick. I've had Belgian malinois before, and they're also a headstrong and stubborn dog, albeit smaller, and we managed just fine. Thoughts?

Don't know of anyone here that will tell you, you need to break any mastiff breeds spirit. To be the alpha in the pack/pack leader.
You want them to love there family. Which mean starting training as soon as you get the puppy or adopt a older one.
Being consistent an fair, with rewards and praise for doing something correct is the only way you build that.

Most also need to be around there families a lot, you don't want a 120 to 250lb dog developing a fear aggression, for the sake of yourself, your family and friends.

This is what I've been preaching, but yeah that wasn't in this forum. That was general conversations, and believe it or not, the ICCF (like the AKC for Corsi). It's like they find the worst of the breed and use them as the example

Some people are idiots and do not have a clue about the CC or any breed of dog for that matter. You will find the most informative and resourceful people on this forum than any other forum for mastiffs. Stick with this forum for the best information.

IMO, calling a CC a dangerous dog is the same as calling a pit bull a dangerous dog. The dog is dangerous because of the owner.

I agree. I always thought it was all in the training. It's not like I'm introducing a wild rabid wolf into my home.

Yeah.... I think if you aim to "break the spirit" of your mastiff (or any dog, for that matter), you're in for a world of hurt.

These are independent thinkers... and I certainly have come to respect the power of the "opposition reflex" - which Denna has in spades. If you pull one way, she'll pull harder in the opposite direction... just because.
If you ask her go with you, she comes willingly... tell her she MUST go, and she lays down and refuses to move.
I suppose I have not "broken" her spirit... but why in the world would I ever want to do that??

A "broken" dog would not be an appropriate partner or protector... and could certainly become a liability (fear-aggressive) in a heart-beat.

And this is coming from an "Authority" group on CC's???
That's awful.

Yeah. Breaking the spirit of any animal is terrible. I want a partner and protector for my family, as well as a family member. I wouldn't do that to my children, why would I do it to another family member? I'm glad to see that common sense says that I was right and should ignore this way of thinking.
