If I wanted to use it as a supplement, what age would I,start my pups on it?

Tumeric: Golden paste

I had to stop giving it to Kryten. Even a little bit caused him to throw up.

Yay, Hector! Look at that big smile. I think he's liking the turmeric, too.

Thanks, he'll eat it as long as it's hardened paste from the fridge topped onto his kibble.

Personally, I wouldn't give any supplements unless the dog needed it. I am not sure on what age, but I haven't come across anyone on the turmeric page giving it to any pups. All the cases are usually older and has cancer or has some sort of problem going on.

Do you give with food?

Yep. He was down to about 1/4 tsp mixed into 3c of food once a day. He would throw that meal up soon after. It didn't matter what time of day and he didn't throw up the other meal. It just doesn't work with his stomach. Back to finding something other than pharmaceuticals that can help with his arthritis.

Wow, that's no good. Sorry to hear about that.

Huh, that's odd. You'd think his stomach would get used to it after a while, poor guy. I know you said you wanted to avoid pharmaceuticals, but when I mentioned trying out golden paste, my vet told me about a soft chew joint supplement that has turmeric added in. It's called Synovi G4. I don't know if just having turmeric added in will be as beneficial as a true golden paste, but it's always an option. We opted not to use it because the ingredients include poultry and my girl is allergic. But maybe that would work better for Kryten's tummy issues?

Not if it has poultry in it. But thanks for the option.

It has medicinal effects without the side effects of NSAIDS. It helps with pain and inflammation and improves overall health. It's not suitable for everyone or every animal though. I make it for my dogs to replace joint supplements that didn't seem to work. Lots of people have reported it reduced the size of tumors in their pets. There is a facebook group for turmeric if you are interested. You can read everything there.

I actually stopped giving Hector turmeric paste everyday and he is back to limping. I don't know if it's the weather change or because of the paste. We are going back to a daily schedule to see what happens.

So I started giving him glucosamine supplement, just a cheapy dog brand one I had and the dosage was around 1000 mg. Been giving it to him for about 2 days and giving turmeric in the morning and tonight he had the energy to run on leash! He was really excited and was going really fast and I ended up not being able to keep up with just walking so I jogged with him a bit. He will let me know how everything is going once he gets up from his nap.

No signs of limp from the other day so we went on a hike yesterday. I took the wrong road and ended up going farther than what Hector was capable of without getting hurt. He finished like a champ. As I already predicted he would be sore and gimpy. Well he didn't gimp around, but his back was hurting. He'd yelp in certain positions, but no lameness thank god. The liquid gluco came today so back to 2000 mg a day on top of turmeric in the mornings and taking a break with the walks for a bit. Moral of the story is that you know your dog and what they are capable of, pushing them over their limits will result in injury. I've seen it many times with Hector which is unfortunate for a young dog.

Anyway sad story/ over.

I need to try TP with my swissy. She is getting very weak/sore in the rear as she gets older. I do gloucosamine which helps but feel like she needs a bit more.
