I've definitely had progress on the barking! What I've been doing is before he goes outside, he sits and stays until I give him the command to go outside even if the door is wide open and i'm outside and he can't see me outside, he will wait until I've given the command, I tested this last night to see how long he would "stay" and he stayed for 2 minutes then i gave the command, which I feel is good progress for him at this early state. Then he goes onto our deck. Our deck has a gate that can close so he can't have access to go down the stairs into the yard. Sometimes he gets excited, especially if the neighbors are out with their dogs. So what I have been doing is keeping him on the deck until he is relaxed and I can have his full attention on me. Then I will open the gate and make him stay again, then release him to go down the stairs into the yard. So far no barking, only once or twice, which I believe is normal for any dog. It wasn't what it used to be, the over excessive barking non stop.
He has been leaving the neighbors and their dogs alone, he hasn't even payed attention to them when I have been doing them. So I feel that this has been good progress.
There has been once where he was barking at a dog across the alley, I gave him the warning with "uh uh" then he proceeded to bark, and I told him "that's enough" in my grumpy mom voice, and he instantly stopped.
I feel like this is great progress from where we were before though!
What do you guys think?
I'm not sure how I feel about an e-collar, as I want him to listen to me, and not the vibrations of a collar, and that goes for the bark spray, not saying I think they are a bad tool especially when used properly and correctly. Thank you very much for your response and suggestions though!
I was curious on if people had used clicker training before though, and if they had found it more effective?
Thanks everyone!
