The mom killed 4 out of 6 pups and wasn't nursing so I made the decision to bottle feed him so the same wouldn't happen.

Good call then. Her calcium must have been low. I have been reading more about this where the mom starts killing pups and they are finding that dosing the mother with extra calcium stops the behavior. Also giving calcium during the whelping process eases the labor and calms the mother down. Jade went through this during her whelping, she started to go crazy, attacking a brush pile and growling and acting like a crazed animal. I gave her a triple dose of tums in some karo syrup and she snapped right out and went back into labor.

Also if the bitch retains a placenta or still born pup they will go nuts and kill the pups or destroy whatever they can get a hold of.

Good luck on raising that baby. Goats milk, karo syrup and pureed liver is great for hand feeding them.
