Vets thinks its his heart?

About 2:00 in the afternoon on Tuesday my boyfriend text me to say Balin has been laying on the floor whining. When I arrived home he got up, greeted me and I took him out. He seemed to be o.k. No limp in his walk. He came in and layed back down. I took him out again before dinner. He ate and layed back down. He was whining off and on, but not like he was durring the day. At about 8:00 p.m. he was whining constantly, and trying to get up. He just wanted to go to bed as he has a nice place in the bedroom where he lays. I tried everything to gete him up. I even broke out the car ride leash! He cried and cried wanting to get up. I felt soooo horrible. I layed on the floor with him until 2 a.m. because he wouldn't stop crying. At 2 my boyfriend came into the living room and Balin poped up. He poped up like nothing was wrong. I took him out, and then took him to bed. The next morning he got up, went out, ate and then layed back down. I came home from work at about 9:30 because I was too upset. I called the vets and asked if they could come out to the house to check on him because he couldnt get up again. They said that they don't have anyone to do that. I was devistated.....what do I do?? I have a 200lb.+ dog, and no way to get him to the vets! He finally got up, again like nothing was wrong, and I took him to my truck, got him in, and headed to the vets.

It was a project getting him out, because he was lame again. The vet was wonderful as he had worked on farms and with big animals *Thank goodness*. He checked his temperature in my truck (it was fine), and after we got him out of the truck he felt his joints (they felt fine) and then listened to his heart. He told me that he didnt like the way it sounded. I left my baby there so they could do tests. My vet called me late that night and said the good news was that the blood work came back perfect, but he listened to his heart again and he still didnt like the way it sounded. He didnt want to say it is his heart, it could be something else, but that was the only thing that sounded off. He said that the only way to check is to get a cardio ultra sound, and it is pretty costly which I couldn't afford. I'd have to take Balin to Cornell to have it done as they do not have the capability there. I asked if there was anything else that could be done. The vet suggested trying a anti inflamatory just in case it is his joints or maybe spine.

I cried all night. I feel horrible because I cried as if he was already gone. I prayed all night to please bring him home healthy. God he is only 6 years old...I never give him table scraps, he is as close to Holistic as they get! Why me? Why now? My brithday is in 4 days. I feel selfish, but please dear god I don't want to lose him on my birthday. Please let me have him for 2 more years...he is too young.....I love him sooooo much, so MUCH

That morning I decided to take off of work. I had to get to the vets to see him. My boyfriend and I arrived, and I was expecting to go out back to see him. Here came the vet tech with my Balin walking out on his own in good spirits! Did my praying work? I said to myself. I arrived home, took him inside and made sure he was comfy, and ran to the store to get a different food for him, and a thick Queen sized mattress pad which I cut in half to make 2 beds. When I got home I arranged his new bedding. He loved it. After about an hour I took him out again. This time he was weaker. We made it to the grass and he started wobbling. This time it was his whole body. He barely made it up the steps, into the house, and plopped on the floor. He was breathing VERY hard. He rested for an hour and then he got up to eat dinner.

Layed back down on his bed. And here I am writing this. I'm so nervous about getting him up to take him outside. What if he goes down out there? What if he doesnt get up? If I had the money I could drive him to Cornell to get a ultra sound to see if it is his heart. Simple meds could possibly cure him. What am I to do?

I called Cornell and they said it costs $550-$850 for a cardio ultra sound. I wounder if I could try a fund raiser?

I started a Blog on this in the "blog section" for anyone that wants to keep up or read what is going on with Balin.

Do you think they'd take a payment plan to have it done. I hope he improves. Hugs.

I hope Balin is better. I see this post is a few months old.
I have a credit card from Care Credit. Not the best interest rate, but it is only for medical emergencies, and they cover veterinary care also. Might be worth checking into if you haven't found a way to raise the money already. I hope your baby is doing great and has rebounded 100% since this post. Take care!

Hi everyone! Thanks, again for those of you that check Balin's progress. He is still doing ok. And has not had an episode like the one he had back in November. I'm still giving him anti inflamatories, but only 1 a day. I also got him addional padding to lay on which I think has helped. The vet suggested getting a Queen size matress pad, and cutting it in half to make 2. I stack both on top of each other for him. I have not gotten him a ultra sound. As I previously stated it is pretty costly, and I'm kind of scared. Thank you all for your support. ~Jessica
