When did your DDB start guarding?

Yes, I thought that it has something to do with my fear as well, as I live not in the safest neighbourhood. What I find confusing is that when I am afraid she just ignores the person, when I don't realize that stranger as a threat she does it. I don't want my dog to be aggressive towards humans and I don't want her to train to be. When walking she is fine, but if I stay in one spot longer she will at some point go into guarding mode.It does not happen everyday but maybe once a week.
I don't want to her to be on the leash, but I should until this phase is over?
There was also talk about genetics (one side from Germany the other one from Netherlands), is this also part of it? Because I know her parents are really happy loving dogs but also pretty fierce guardians.

I would not let her off leash until you have at least 100% recall to protect you and her. Believe me, she feels your fear and she's probably checking out the area and people are you.

DDB's are natural guardians and breeding does have a lot to do with their natural guarding instincts.
