Whining for no reason

Hay anyone experienced this - we will be sitting around and watching tv or something and just out of the blue Opie will whine for no apparent reason - or that i can think of. And sometimes he goes on and on......

Hector whines/cries a lot! Here is a list of reasons why I think he whines/cries just from my observations:

-excitement, will whine in your face while we toss and turn in our sleep - thinks we are getting up,
-when guests come over, or when we come home, usually the whining becomes a really loud cry with a toy in his mouth
-ready for a walk
-know there is food

-gas or upset stomach- we can tell by how he keeps getting up from one laying spot to another - then eventually he farts

-need to go potty - at times when he needs to go really bad and has been waiting at the back door for someone to let him out, he will cry to let us know

-can't get that itch - he'll sit there staring at us crying because he's too big and not flexi enough to itch his bum

-wanting to play- sometimes out of nowhere he will sit and stare at everyone and whine then it becomes a shrieking bark, then he gets himself all excited

-can't get toy - he will cry when his toy gets under the couch and he can't get it

-boredom - usually he goes to sleep, but at times i think he's just bored

I found that it helps when he is bored to give him a stuffed kong to keep him busy for awhile or hide treats (the small rawhide sticks or cut up treat rolls pieces) throughout the house for him to find.

Ruger is very vocal and whines and "talks" a lot but always for a reason. I have mostly learned his reasons but the range from a pig ear stuck under a chair (The most common reason to whine) that he can't reach to a need for attention and everything in between. I don't think he has ever whined for nothing.

Denna whines when she needs someone to re-open her crate door so she can retrieve a toy (we have to close the door to make way in the doorway). She'll also whine when the screen door is shut - which means she can't go outside, and she also can't reach the doorbells to call someone to open it (they're behind the screen). She doesn't often just whine for the heck-of-it, but she will sigh when she's bored and can't get us to play.

Titan will whine if he wants to play and I've ignored him placing the toy next to me. I'm such a bad dog mommy sometimes.... hehehehehe

Consider yourself lucky its a whine...I get full face barked at. I thought this Sunday just gone it would be nice to sleep in, say til 10. WRONG. 8.30 my lovely girl comes in to the bedroom and stares at me, I ignore her, then she growls in my face (get up mummy growl), I ignore her so she ramps it up to a GET THE HELL OUT OF BED bark. I got up, she went and lay down in her bed. I could have killed her. If she is laying outside and Im not with her, she barks for me to come rub her belly. Yeah Im an idiot and I do it. hahaha.

Oh, I get the obnoxious bark and growl directly in my face, too. when Ruger is upset, he slobbers like crazy so when he barks directly in my face, I get splashed with slime!!! He has also done the force me out of bed and then he JUMPED INTO MY BED!!!! I guess we are both idiots because I cater to the "come love me bark", too. LOL

My dog must be the quietest dog ever. He will not whine, cry, whimper...and RARELY barks. Almost all of his communication is physical:

~ The stare. This is a from of communication I have learned to decifer, after living with the beast for 2 years...
~ The body positioning between me and whomever is at the door, or walking too close to me, especially at night
~ The paw. Mostly, "I want attention and love, please."
~ The climbing up on lap if he feels he is being ignored
~ Did I mention the stare? Sometimes I just want to say, "Use your words", LOL.

Seriously, I have heard him bark maybe 4 or 5 times- and it's always in relation to another dog. Growls are always directed at large male dogs, still pretty rare...but well-heeded.

He does have a sort of soft, almost growly "purr" when I am petting him to his satisfaction...

Quiet, quiet guy...

Olive whines constantly when I'm not accessible to her. For example, right now I've got a laptop in her way, she's whining at me and has started talking, Chewbacca style. Then come the barks! She also whines when she's bored. If I'm sitting and reading or doing homework and she wants my attention, she'll whine and whine. Mornings are just like what Mooshi's Mummy described- she gets PISSED if I don't acknowledge her when SHE wants to get up. Whining, barking in my face at the edge of the bed, at 0615-0630, every single morning. Not my husband's side, just at me. We don't get to sleep in anymore, but I love her anyway.

My husband and I figured out that Igor's whining usually means "pay some attention to me!" sometimes he thinks its time for his walk, other times he just wants snuggles. it can be quite aggrivating when you dont want to pay any attention to your dog, such as when sleeping or watching a movie.

The only whine I get is if Abner gets locked out of the bedroom. God forbid he doesn't want to get up when we get ready to go to bed, but an hour later he wakes up(can you tell this happens A LOT!) and whines at the bed room door when he realizes he is all alone and the whole fam damily (3 other dogs, the cat, my husband and I ) are all in the bedroom.

Although lately, he has been whining because he has started locking himself in the laundry room. Why, or how I have no idea, but he whines REALLY loud when he is locked in a windowless, dark, tiny room, that if he lay down he would take up the entire floor. When I let him out he is VERY appreciative!

So glad to know ours isn't the only dog that does this. He doesn't do it as much now but when he was younger he'd whine for no apparent reason. And super annoying sound - low barely audible breathy whine. Would drive a person mad! Now he only really does it if he can't be in the same room as us....if we baby gate him in the kitchen while we are in the living room kind of scenario. So glad our female never did this. Man its like nails on a chalk board!

Hahaha. Max does this too. My boyfriend can get up, make coffee, come back to bed and nothing. The moment he hears me turn over, there he is grumbling his 'good morning, Mom. Time to get up!'. If I don't acknowledge him pronto, then he'll start barking. I've learned to get up to the growls. lol.

The only other time he barks, is when a toy gets under a spot he can't reach. Sometimes I feel he is training me. I swear I do much more fetching than he does. :)

He is very vocal with his Chewbacca noises and grumbles, but only whines when he wants out of his crate.

He has the bored sigh, too and boy is it dramatic!
